Getting ready for my early-morning class. (A class I take, not a class I teach.)

I just tested my new, mini die cutting machine, the Tim Holtz Sidekick by Sizzix. I think 75% of the die cutting I do is smaller than 2,5 inch. Early last year I bought a small die cutting machine, the DiamondPress. It was okay-ish, but I wasn't completely satisfied with it. Yesterday the scrapbook store had one Sidekick in stock, so I took it. I love it. It also works with the DiamondPress dies (it will work with all thinlet dies) and embossing folders.

It comes with a matching set of dies, stamps and embossing folder to make tags. So I think tomorrow's creative half hour will be spend making batches of birthday and Christmas gift tags. It's always good to have a bunch of those lying around.

That's so funny...Dumas' classic is one of the very few books that I cannot finish. I just can't. I get however-far through, and get so irritated with the lazy, misogynistic gigolos that I cannot see them as remotely heroic. ;-( I've tried repeatedly, but...can't do it.

When I told my wife I finished it and what I thought of it her response was "Now you feel my pain!!" It is at the top of her "hated books" list.

Enjoy the movies and have fun with the three musketeers that our culture wants to believe in and not the four imbeciles that were actually written about.

Yes, that's the interesting thing. Normally, I'm sort of anal about that--I feel that the books should be the driver, and any movie version(s) sort of a temporary entertainment, passing thing...but hell, in this case, NO version of the movie, even that ridiculous thing with the martial artist, is WORSE than Dumas' book.

And I'm fine with "getting over" all kinds of stuff in older books, of all kinds, from sexism to racism to this or that, but something about this one just sticks in my craw. They're such worthless sods, you know? I can't quite wrap my head around, in what universe, in what day and age, could these guys have been viewed as remotely heroic, or emulous?

When I first encountered this--I was 13--I thought, well, maybe I'll get it when I'm older. Reading the classics is a required deal, in my family's homes; first, parents read them TO you, then you start reading them yourself, and so on and so forth. But I nearly got in the deep doo-doo over that one. Only one that was part of our list that I never could finish, to this DAY, and yes, I've even tried again, just in the last few years, for like the fourth time.

Just can't get there from here. I can't even imagine trying to teach this, in the modern age...I mean, what do you say to the tween males, who would probably, being boys, love it at that age, and the girls? Sheesh.

Seriously considering getting the Dyson Hot + Cool, again. I like that it's two things in one, a fan and a heater; my bedroom isn't very big so a combined item is a nice idea. Also, my current five year old fan, which was very cheap, is making more noise each time I turn it on and the heater also has some advantages over the space heater I currently have.

But it's so expensive. I might just do it, next week temperatures might rise to 29C and it would be blissful to have a good fan.
