The highlight for me was two dirt cheap versions of Frankenstein... one was $1.99 and one was only $.66.

I don't know if this is the right forum/subforum or thread to put this. I considered the "News" forum/subforum. I also considered the "Whispersync Deals" thread below.

I noticed on one webpage at Amazon just now, that a person apparently cannot purchase the audio companion to Kindle books with cash anymore. He/she can purchase the audio narration to a book with credits only. At least on that webpage.

Someone please tell me that I'm in error about this. I don't care if I'm wrong and have egg all over my face--just inform me that I'm wrong. Here's the webpage that I was just looking at.

If I'm right, is this on every Kindle book with audio narration at Amazon now, or are they (Amazon/Audible) rolling it out on a relatively few ebooks at a time?

There has been a change, though. Until very, very recently, the _price_ of the audio narration was put with other pricing information (Kindle price, CD (if there was one)), wasn't it? If I understand you correctly, if a person clicks on the thumbnail or a more obvious link, he/she is taken to a webpage for the Kindle ebook and is there shown the "cash" price?

Even if a price of $19.95 shows up, that sounds like a full retail price, not a discounted price like we used to get (frequent price points $7.49 and $12.49--I never remember one nearly as expensive as $19.95!).

And, I noticed that there are no Whispersync narration deals on any of the ebooks on the webpage that I initially posted. In the past, if there was an Audible audiobook (not CD, etc.) available, wasn't there, again, a "cash" price shown for it so that the person buy both the ebook and the audiobook, making a Whispersync deal? Now, even though the ebook and audiobook may be listed, there is nothing on the webpage about a Whispersync deal (based upon scanning the webpage visually several times, and doing a Ctrl+F search of the entire webpage. I also did a Ctrl+F search for "Audible narration," which words used to be with books that had Whispersync deals; there was nothing; the only instances of "Audible" were for "Audible audibook."

I hope that you're right, but I smell a rat.

I gave the entire results page because of what I said in paragraph #2 of my initial post about the "whole webpage," etc. There was not just one book in question. Maybe my post above will explain the rationale, too.

You realize only some books ever get/got a whispersync discount? It's never been something that every book offers. It's only a whispersync deal if you buy the eBook and it happens to be a title that offers a discount on the audio (most books do not offer this and never have even if they're WS compatible and the deals do seem to be offered less and less).

Can't really say how it was displayed on Amazon as I'd often look at Audible and see if the book offered a whispersync discount, not Amazon. I thought what Amazon displayed depended on what if any Audible membership you had, but not sure about that. Maybe I'm just not understanding.

Amazon shows it as $15.92 or 1 credit for my account. Which has fully active Amazon and Audible accounts. It doesn't offer a WhisperSync price, and the book is NOT WhisperSync enabled. Nothing has changed, there is no rat.

I spent about 30-45 minutes just now, looking around, and all of the other Kindle book posts look the same as they did.
