Don't care for the boring new cover though. Looking at it makes me think of the Led Zeppelin boxed set:

Binti by Nnedi Okorafor is $0.99 at Amazon US.

This is a novella, rather than a full novel. But it won a Hugo and a Nebula. And the other two books in the series are available for cheap as well.

Quote:
Her name is Binti, and she is the first of the Himba people ever to be offered a place at Oomza University, the finest institution of higher learning in the galaxy. But to accept the offer will mean giving up her place in her family to travel between the stars among strangers who do not share her ways or respect her customs.

Knowledge comes at a cost, one that Binti is willing to pay, but her journey will not be easy. The world she seeks to enter has long warred with the Meduse, an alien race that has become the stuff of nightmares. Oomza University has wronged the Meduse, and Binti's stellar travel will bring her within their deadly reach.

If Binti hopes to survive the legacy of a war not of her making, she will need both the gifts of her people and the wisdom enshrined within the University, itself — but first she has to make it there, alive.

This Is How You Lose the Time War by Amal El-Mohtar and Max Gladstone is $2.99 on Amazon.com

This is a lyrical epistolary novella about two rival time-traveling operatives who leave each other messages across time and space.

Recently won the Nebula.

Planetfall by Emma Newman is $1.99 on Amazon.com
First in a series that has been on my wishlist.

Quote:
Renata Ghali believed in Lee Suh-Mi’s vision of a world far beyond Earth, calling to humanity. A planet promising to reveal the truth about our place in the cosmos, untainted by overpopulation, pollution, and war. Ren believed in that vision enough to give up everything to follow Suh-Mi into the unknown.

More than twenty-two years have passed since Ren and the rest of the faithful braved the starry abyss and established a colony at the base of an enigmatic alien structure where Suh-Mi has since resided, alone. All that time, Ren has worked hard as the colony's 3-D printer engineer, creating the tools necessary for human survival in an alien environment, and harboring a devastating secret.

Ren continues to perpetuate the lie forming the foundation of the colony for the good of her fellow colonists, despite the personal cost. Then a stranger appears, far too young to have been part of the first planetfall, a man who bears a remarkable resemblance to Suh-Mi.

The truth Ren has concealed since planetfall can no longer be hidden. And its revelation might tear the colony apart...

Several of Tom Holt’s K.J. Parker books are currently discounted at Amazon US:

$1.99:
Sharps
The Escapement (Engineer 3/3)
The Proof House (Fencer 3/3)
The Two of Swords: Volume Three (of three)

$2.99:
Sixteen Ways to Defend a Walled City (sequel due in August)

$3.99:
Evil for Evil (Engineer 2/3)
Colours in the Steel (Fencer 1/3)

There are a few other titles in that price range, but they’re novellas rather than novels.

For the K. J. Parker books, note that Colours in the Steel is not a discount. $3.99 is the regular price.
If you're considering the novellas, make sure they aren't already collected in the anthologies Academic Exercises and The Father of Lies, which are a better bargain.

I’m a fan of comic-fantasy Holt, but not historical/Lucia Holt, and I haven’t tried his Parker stuff yet. I picked up Sharps and 16 as inexpensive ways to sample that side of his work without committing to a series (although 16 does have a sequel coming out).

A while back, @Tarana posted something about a standalone book, Uprooted, by Naomi Novik, which I read and really liked.

So then I started reading Novik's Temeraire series, and really liked it too. (It reminds me a bit of Sharpe on a dragon...)

So I'm happy to see the third title in the series drop to £0.99 at Kindle UK. Note there is also an omnibus of the first three titles available, so check carefully before you buy.

link: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B002RI9F6I

Spoiler:
Quote:
Naomi Novik’s stunning series of novels follow the global adventures of Captain William Laurence and his fighting dragon Temeraire as they are thrown together to fight for Britain during the turbulent time of the Napoleonic Wars.

British flyer Will Laurence and his extraordinary Celestial dragon, Temeraire, gratefully anticipate their voyage home from China. But before they set sail, they are waylaid by urgent new orders. The British Government, having purchased three valuable dragon eggs from the Ottoman Empire – one of a rare fire-breathing Kazilik dragon, one of the most deadly breeds in existence – now require Laurence and Temeraire to make a more perilous overland journey instead, stopping off in Istanbul to collect and escort the precious cargo back to England.

And time is of the essence if the eggs are to hatch upon British shores.

A cross-continental expedition is a daunting prospect, fraught with countless dangers. The small party must be prepared to travel the treacherous Silk Road: navigating frigid mountain passes and crossing sterile deserts to evade feral dragon attacks and Napoleon's aggressive infantry.

Barely surviving the poisonous intrigue of the Ottoman Court, the small British party's journey home is delayed once more. The Prussians muster their forces before them, barring their way, and Laurence and Temeraire become swept up in the battle against Bonaparte – trapped by politics as they learn that the British had promised to send their allies aid – but help is months overdue.

The crew will also face unexpected menace, for a Machiavellian herald precedes them, spreading political poison in her wake. Lien, the white celestial dragon, absconded from the Chinese Imperial Court shortly after the humiliating death of her beloved princely companion. Fervently believing Temeraire to be the architect of her anguish, she has vowed to ally herself with his greatest enemy in order to exact a full and painful revenge upon everything and everyone the black dragon holds dear.
