Doing a little happy dance.
My father's going to order a new laptop for the store. The current one is incredibly slow. It is a five or six year old i3, which was already an older model when we bought it. My father always put the orders received in Excel, and he puts them all below each other and the files of the two suppliers we get weekly shipments from are not huge, but big enough to take a while to load and lag when scrolling on the old laptop. My father decision to update it to Windows 10 slowed it down even more. At the moment it takes at least half a minute to open Firefox if it hasn't been opened for a while. Which isn't very practical when you want to look up something quickly for a customer who is waiting. The new laptop has the latest i5 processor, a 256gb SSD drive and 4gb memory. Which is more than adequate for the next couple of years. |

Firefox does takes a while to load but not as long as Chrome. It has to do with the way the browser sits in memory. There use to be a trick to make it launch faster.

It isn't just Firefox. When I wake the laptop up from sleep in the morning it needs 10 to 15 minutes before it's usable, before that there is a lot of lag and delay. When there's an update it takes ages, first the laptop slows down when it's downloading the update and when it's updating in the background it unusable. Even a not very big update can take over an hour to install.
My father had planned on ordering the new laptop from the online Staples store. However, due to the weather yesterday it was very quiet and he went to pick it up from the nearby Staples. He had planned on installing the various programs we use (not much; Libre Office, Dropbox, virus scan, price tag printer, Acrobat Reader and Firefox), but I don't know if he did. He's already asked me to remove the bloatware. |

Looking for a bicycle trailer (one that can be attached to the bike) that can be folded so it'll take up less space when stored.
Since I had a bad flu when I went on my reading retreat two months ago I figured I deserve a do-over. The vacation park I selected is only 30km (about 20 miles) away from home, so in theory I could cycle to the park. However, I would need a way to take all my stuff with me, hence the trailer. It would also be handy for picking up things at nearby suppliers. In summer my father regularly wants me to go pick up things at supplier that are too big or too heavy IMHO to strap to the carrier, a trailer would be ideal for those situations. |

Yesterday I was chasing the cat when the golf cart injury from 2014 flared up. I've been in bed since. I haven't been able to sit for long periods of time so I've had to lay on my left side all night, all day. This sucks.
Hubby is dealing with a pulled muscle, kidney stone or gout crystal. We are not sure but it's his left thigh area. I gave him my crutches so he can get to the bathroom and back unassisted. He's been in so much pain. We are quite a pair! Sent from my XT1528 |

I've just booked my next reading retreat. I had planned on booking next week, when I have enough money to pay it in full immediately. However, looking at the website this morning I saw that they only had to of my preferred cottages left. So I booked. I have to pay the first 30% before the 21st of this month and the remainder before the third of April. So I can still pay it in full next week.
I've invited my sister. However, around that time she's got a big project at work, so she's going to see if she can get the Friday and Monday off. That way she can join me on Thursday or Friday evening, because my father has to drop her off after the store closes. And on Monday she can drive back with us and have the rest of the day to unpack. The park itself is in the forest we used to go walk with my grandfather, though at north end and we always walked in the southern part. If the weather is nice my sister and will cycle to the restaurant we used to go to with our grandparents. |

And for the past month I've been dealing with a muscle in my foot that for some mysterious reason has decided to stop working. It's the one that lifts my right foot. A neurologist is going to run some tests Friday. In the meantime I'm using a cane because if I don't I keep tripping over my foot. Or more precisely, my foot trips over the sidewalk. Bodies. Who designed these things, anyway? Hope you and hubby are both feeling better soon. |

You mean PI day? Or are you thinking of "snow day" because you are in the area getting tons of snow today?

Just got off the phone with mom. She sounds horrible. Final diagnosis was sepsis.
It is going to take her a long time to recover her strength. |

Taking a break from shoveling snow. I'm not trying to get the entire driveway cleared, just a path up to the street -- we live on a hillside and park the cars on the street at the first mention of snow.
