The only people/groups that I've every heard make the "descent from apes" claim are those that are against evolution or are simply ignorant. Those that know what they are talking about tend to use the "common ancestor" term.

I know someone who developed a computer back in the 1960s. He looked at a wikipedia article on that computer and found errors. He created an account, fixed the erros, pointing out he was on the design team for that computer. And that from the article, the writer of the original article hadn't been there, and had incorrect information. His work was deleted, and the orignal error fileld article, was placed back. he emailed and told them, he was on the design team. And that obviously whomever wrote the orignial article, knew nothing about the computer. He tried two more times, and was banned. So I feel I have excellent reasons for not trusting wikipedia as a source. |

Yup, all primates have a common ancestor around 3-4 million years ago.

This concept is at the crux of this discussion and by saying/acting/doing what you say above you are spitting in the face of that concept. |

Humans are classified under the heading of Hominoidea, which includes the Great Apes (this group includes humans) and gibbons. This family of primates had a shared ancestor with modern monkeys, but did not descend from monkeys.

Why would you agree with banning/changing the textbooks particularly if the "lines" are neurtral in tone(whatever that means)? You think there should be some kind or quota system wrt history?

Its like I wouldn't go to some of my fundamentalist relatives to find out about evolution. Say if I wanted to look up star formation, Wikipedia might have good info. But I wouldn't go there for anything that might be a political hot potato. I have read of a number of universities that refuse to accept it as a resource for a term paper. So, I'm not the only one who sees it as unreliable. |

You're missing the point joebill. You are dismissing out of hand without evaluating. This is as bad as eliminating all references to Islam from textbooks.
