Well, last time (600) it was the other way around, we did not get red at the beginning but u in the US did. Pink is not an alternative anymore for me either, especially if it is the same as the 350 pink, did not like it much.

I'll post some pics as soon as I can, hopefully this WE (wish me luck). Curious about the blue myself I must say, and also to see whether the red is the 600 or the 505 red (or a new one... ???? )

Now, what to do about the covers.....

I forgot to check in on this thread. But, I went down to Davie, FL two days ago in order to pick up a filter for my HEPA (you'd be surprised how hard to find and ridiculously priced these things are) and they had the best deal possible.

On my way back home, I stopped at the Boca Town Square, just for the hell of it. And sure enough - they had the red 650 in stock.

So, being as impulsive as I am - I came home with one. Got the lighted cover as well. First impressions are positive. It's leap years ahead of my old 700, which my brother is enjoying way too much to be legal probably. This is what a reader should be.

Then I thought about returning my 350 for a refund. But then I remembered going through my first two or three 505's from them getting jostled around in my work bag (where I end up doing most of my downtime reading anyway...sssh, don't tell the boss) and decided to keep the 350 for its size/portability. The zipper case is reassuringly sturdy enough for me to throw in the bag. I can drop it into my back pocket and keep my hands free when I walk into restaurants.

The 650 will stay at home in its lighted cover on the nightstand.

Still keeping my K2, but the nook may end up on the auction block. The 3 or 5% cash back I get from using my B/N mastercard may not even be worth the trouble anymore. I let my book club membership lapse because it really didn't seen to be worth the membership fee anymore. I haven't been inside a B/N in about three weeks. Hrm...

What was the point of this thread?

Oh yeah. The new Sony pretty much took my favorite parts of all the other readers and combined them into one beautiful device.

Portable, touch screen, light weight, thumbnail/cover display, open access to content, speedy....

I have my eye on a red Oberon cover for the black 950 (I believe the Kindle 2 size should fit): http://www.oberondesign.com/shop/car...t_detail&p=940

I bet if I buy the 950 in silver it will come out in red a month later, That is my luck, Im hoping for red as well, But may just go for the 650 in red and use an Ipad for all the heavy lifting I would have used the 950 for.

The concern I'd have is the lack of Japanese support if you need it. It only seems to support European-style languages at the moment. I've not tried any books that have Japanese in them yet either.

If that is something you need, I'd at least wait for someone to test theirs first.

I can read Japanese, but I read mostly in english. I don't think there is currently any E-book provider here in Japan. Even amazon jp don't seem to have much ebooks.
In the case I need to read Japanese in my near future reader, it will be for manga, which is images anyway.

So it is not currently my priority now.

But yeah I have some PDFs in Japanese, work stuff, so I'll keep close watch on development stuff.

How's the device btw? growing on you already?

It is the device I've been waiting for since the 900 came out.

I had a 900 for awhile, but it was always a conflict. I'd try to go back and read on a 505, kept going back to the 900, and then driven away from the 900 again by the screen. The software side of the 900 was almost exactly what I was looking for in a reader (ignoring ADE rendering bugs that practically all devices have).

With these new devices, they have addressed the key complaints I had with the previous generation: the murky screen and the inability to create and manage collections on the device.

for you that it will make its launch soon in Japan.

My 650 has not been shipped after all yet says the sonystyle hotline, nor has my 350. They should "sometime this week", but that'll be too late for this trip. That means I won't get them before October 21st. bummer .

I'm trying to get ahold of a PRS-650, there's no one carrying them here in Sweden though. Anyone aware of some online store in the U.S. except for BHphoto that ships overseas?

Or any German or other european store that's ships within the European union.

Sonystyle sweden do not carry it for some reason...

http://www.stoneaudio.co.uk/ list the black and red covers for the 650 (£22.49 plus £3.50 postage) but it's hard to say if they have them in stock or not without actually ordering one or emailing them. There is no direct link to the covers' page, so search for 'Sony PRS-ASC65'. I guess I would settle for the red one if these two colours were the only choices but I would still prefer the white/red one instead.

I infer that the green light means "in stock" - it says ships within 24 hours if you hover your cursor there.
