Oh yes, I do now onto a external hard drive and a smaller thumb drive, but back then I didn't have either.

There's nothing wrong with repeatedly reworking your opening, to get it just right. You want the introduction of your book to catch the reader and draw them in.

Of course, if you're on the forty-ninth revision, and haven't moved past that, there may be some other issues...

Maybe you're over-thinking it. Consider moving on, and worry about tightening the opening later.

I read about 'em once, in a Michael Crichton novel... apparently, when they are done properly, no one physically does them, and no one knows about 'em, but some geek always manages to point the protagonist to 'em in the nick of time...

As for what I am writing now, I am working on a poem. It willbe about flint spears, modern travelers, wolves, maybe a bit extra. I haven't yet decided how I want to do what in which sequence. I'll upload it, probably this weekend.

Writing what's beginning to feel like the endless novel, even though I just passed the 50,000 word mark (I really don't know how the NaNoWriMo people do it, it's taken me three months to get this far).

My sub-plot just replotted itself (the problem with writing character-driven fiction is that my characters don't always do what I think they're going to) and my main plot replotted itself about a month into writing, so I find I'm writing a completely different book than I started with.

I hope a better book, but that remains to be seen.
