Kindle Scribe

If anyone is still on the fence about the Scribe, here’s an excellent video review of it. It’s by Voja from MyDeepGuide, who is a trusted reviewer of all things e-ink.

I’ve had my Scribe for 2 weeks now, and he captures it 100%. (Well, 99.999%— he missed how to remove the annotation toolbar while reading, which I did as well until someone up the thread asked about it and I had to go look it up in the manual. )

Is that reducing it to the small circle or completely hiding it? If the latter can you please tell how? Thanks.

Completely hiding. Here’s the relevant section from the manual:

To hide the writing toolbar, tap on the top of the screen to display the top navigation bar, tap on the [3 dots] icon, and select “Hide Toolbar”. This will hide the toolbar across all books and documents. To show the toolbar again, go to the same [3 dots] menu and select “Show Toolbar”.

I'd rather replace the Fintie than the Scribe. The fabric cases cost twice as much as the Fintie and do not hold the Scribe securely at all. The rotating Fintie seems sturdy and well made. Have had others with no issues. Sorry if you did not have luck with them.

The original link is one of those 'shortened' URLs and it did not work. Thanks for this one.

Nice review.

Most of his complaints would not be mine: I can't see myself suddenly developing an interest in making handwritten notes on this device or any other. But there's certainly a long list of requirements that are not met in the current software, not even considering that PDF annotation has not been enhanced at all. And I share his skepticism that Amazon will ever enhance PDF annotation, given their commitment to KFX-based annotation. Even if they manage to fix the conversion issues, it is not a substitute for actual PDF markup.

And as a reading device, I don't have much interest in a 10" e-ink device, it is just too large for comfortable reading (and currently does not even support two column format). I'd rather use one of my iPads, or even the 10" Fire HD Plus I just got.

One of the features of the Kindle ecosystem is that books are delivered with different image quality and resolution depending on the target reading platform. In the past the Kindle reading apps for iOS and Android were delivered higher quality images when compared against e-ink Kindles.

I am curious whether Amazon is now customizing image heavy books to use a higher resolution than on previous Kindle devices. It would be interesting to compare delivered file sizes for a high quality Comixology comic between a Paperwhite or Oasis and a Scribe.

IMNSHO, it was a PEBKAC error. The Mobileread YouTube player takes the last part of the URL not the full URL. What you used was:

[YOUTUBE][url]https://youtu.be/g37ZXAsn-2c[/url][/YOUTUBE]

while what was needed was:

[YOUTUBE]g37ZXAsn-2c[/YOUTUBE]

1) I'm not the person that was the first to post that YouTube video link

2) When I tested the youtube BBCode tag prior to posting just the URL as an URL I've used the full form not this shortened (youtu.be) variant, since I know that a bunch of forums that are using ancient phpBB don't correctly parse shortened form of YouTube links (and some even have problems with HTTPS links).

Latency seemed good to me, but I'm surprised that it is faster than the Remarkable. They've obviously spent a lot of time working on that.

Also agree that the software is a disaster, but in the comments somone has noticed that Amazon have added the following text to the device listing:

Coming soon: Kindle Scribe provides regular, free software updates that include new features. In the coming months, Kindle Scribe will add more writing tools, including new brush types and copy/paste tools, additional notebook organisation options and the ability to send documents to Kindle Scribe directly from within Microsoft Word.

My apologies but I was responding to your message that the issue was with the Mobileread BBCode YouTube parser. AFAIK, the Mobileread YouTube parser has never worked with the full URL and has always used the identifier portion of the URL. A simple test using the shortened youtu.be or the youtube.com/watch?v= URLs will demonstrate that those do not work with YouTube BBcode even if you wrap the URL in [URL][/URL]. As I said, a PEBKAC error.

1 Copy the url of the video you want to post:
