Sorry, I have not idea why usb and wifi do not work on your device under KSM. I have myself a Kobo Touch C, so the model should not be a problem. Regarding the firmware, I have presently running KSM 9 under 2.6.x, and 4.6.9995 on my two Touchs.
Do you think trying with an older version of KSM, like KSM 8, could work?

Quote:
I know it may sound strange, but did you try to get WiFi in KSM? It will use settings from nickel to connect.
Well now the wifi is on in KSM too, but it hasn't changed anything with the USB problem.

Quote:
As for some other things (even if you have USB working with nickel), try different USB cable, different USB port (it is possible to somehow "brick" some USB port for Kobo device, it happened to me with my H2O, not sure how and why, but it is worth trying different port).
The USB doesn't work in nickel or KSM, the device freezes anyway in both. I have also already tried another cable, multiple USB ports and even another PC, which have all resulted in the same frozen screen. I'm really out of ideas as to what to try and this seems to be a very unique and mysterious problem.

now that's interesting. I thought I had disabled automatic updates(i had, but now it was enabled again). don't think I ever gave it permission to install one either.

It was my plan to provide a full package for Clara. In the beginning I was hoping to get answers to some questions (cf. this post), before I prepare a test package. Since then I am having some issues that prevent me from working on this stuff.
I'm sorry for not having answered those questions, i'll have a look right now.

FYI the .tgz in KBStartMenu_09_restore.zip is called KoboRoo.tgz, missing a 't'

running the command from https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...&postcount=350 doesn't seem to do anything, USBnet seems to be disabled still.
I'm not entirely sure if that is a command, doesn't look like one to me.

'usb enable' works

@CH23: You can try this USBNet script to see if that works as expected.

(NOTE: if you don't have FBInk installed, either comment out the fbink calls, or remove the "-e" flag from the shebang to prevent that from making the script abort early).

(NB: It follows the Kindle USBNet setup in terms of MAC/IP, which may not be what you're used to/expecting).

OK, from what you have written, you have working USB only when you factory reset device. After you install KSM, USB stops working and this prevents you from working with it. But it gets solved again if you factory reset device.

Really not sure, but you may try older versions of KSM (7 and 8), also if it solves problem, you can report it here, it may help tshering to diagnose what's going wrong with your device.

But, you could copy koreader before instaling KSM in adds directory, so after installation you would have it (I guess) and you could use WiFi for file copying, etc. (not sure which options you have exactly, as I use USB for that).

First I thought you have some hardware problem, but if factory reset restores your USB, it looks like something software, or maybe software&hardware related.

Yes, that's exactly the situation and that's why I don't think it's a hardware problem either.

I will try that and report the results here.

I thought about doing that, but the .adds folder is added when KSM is installed so I can't really copy it beforehand. I haven't really looked into copying files over WiFi either, it seems relatively complex.

Have you still KSM 9 installed? If so, I will try to prepare some test this evening.

When you enter the usb menu, and you press "usb enable.sh", what exactly does happen? (You have to wait some seconds, to see anything happen.) What is written to the info box? Is the screen already at this point frozen? Or does it only freeze after you connect the device to the pc?

Which firmware version is on your device?

Thank you! I have corrected it.

Good!

Could you please install the KoboRoot.tgz from the uploaded archive (it contains the updated usbnet_toggle.sh). But first disable starting usbnet on power on, if you have not yet done so.

If the updated usbnet_toggle.sh does not work, please restart the device to get back to a neutral state and try to run the script in trace mode from the webinterface.
Code:
sh -x $ksmroot/scripts_intern/usb/usbnet_toggle.sh 2>&1
Edit: I uploaded a replacement for the previous archive; it is now called test_usbnet_mark7_log.zip. Please select "usbnet toggle log.sh" from the usb menu instead of "usbnet toggle.sh". A log file will be written to /mnt/onboard/.adds/kbmenu_user/txt/, or if this is not possible to /adds/kbmenu/log/.
Attached Files
File Type: zip test_usbnet_mark7_log.zip (1.0 KB, 176 views)

@tshering:

Code:
insmod $driver_root/usb_f_rndis
is missing its .ko file extension .

insmod may be smart enough to figure that one out though, but I've never checked.

My kobo froze again yesterday when I plugged it in my PC to test something, but I can't seem to unfreeze it for the moment, so I won't be able to do any tests today I think.

From what I remember, when I pressed "usb enable.sh", nothing specific happened except that, when I pressed return, the option to "start nickel" on the KSM start menu had disappeared, but the device didn't freeze at that point. When I plugged the device to my PC afterwards, it froze as always, though. I don't remember what was written in the info box and I can't try it for the moment, as the ereader is frozen like I mentioned.

I think it's on firmware 4.8.11073 (the latest), but I can't verify for sure.

You can create adds directory first (in windows you need to name it .adds. (dot on both ends) to get .adds), and install KSM later, it should leave adds directory with existing content intact and just add new KSM content.

Hope you'll be able to reactivate your device soon.
