I don't think the case material will have much effect on operational temperature, but I think you have the effects reversed. A metal case will not be colder than a plastic case (assuming the device is exposed to the environment long enough for temperature to normalize.). The aluminum feels colder to your hands because it conducts/leaches the heat out of your hands faster. If anything, that will tip the balance in your favor... (more heat leaching from hands means screen and electronics are kept warmer._

However, the Oasis is so decidedly a device that suggests you hold it at its grip without anything attached to it. If Amazon were to suggest that it would be worse than „here’s a cover for your iPhone 4 antenna“...

It'll definitely slow down the colder it gets (the effect is noticeable below about 15C and very noticeable below about 7). I doubt you need to reboot, though. At least I've never needed to. (IIRC, this level of screen-update stuff is all handled by ancillary hardware in the cable connected to the screen, with no dynamic state beyond a temperature sensor. i.e. nothing that could be affected by a reboot in any case. I could be wrong though.)

I just noticed an Amazon listing for an IVSO cover for the new Oasis. The price is $7.95 plus $5.95 for shipping and it will be available between November 16th and December 8th. The back of the case covers the entire back of the Oasis.

I'm going to stick with the Amazon case, but I may buy an aftermarket case down the road once offerings from companies like Flintie are available.

The link to the IVSO case is:

Hah, they need to update their product images (using Photoshop if necessary). Looks like the entry level Kindle there...

I hadn't noticed that. The blue cover--which is a pretty color--shows an Oasis, although I'm not sure if its an Oasis 1 or 2.

Trying to decide Kobo Auro One or Oasis, just because of the larger screen. I read pretty fast and I am forever sliding my finger accross the screen. Just like the Kobo ad, all I see is my fingers, but then again, it's about the size of my ipad mini, and I couldn't fit into my purse. (sigh) So many choices, so little time.

I have been using the Kobo Aura until recently. The night reading lighting and the operating system were great. Unfortunately two broke on me. Because Kobo doesn't really compete in the US, there are no fast replacements. I switched back to my Kobo H2O. After a couple of H2O location memory glitches I switched back to my Voyager. I like the shade of the lighting on the Kobos more and the font options but the Voyager is snapper and easier to carry. I have ordered the Oasis 2 which seems even faster with 32gb. I just don't think that Kobo is interested in providing US customers with a competitive product and customer experience. Shame.

Not at all. I'm simply suggesting that a cover provides a solution to the problem of holding a metal device in very low temperatures. By all means hold it "naked" when you're indoors or somewhere warmer.

Buy a bigger purse.

That said I love my Aura One. I also like to cram as many words on the screen and the big screen and Kobo's font options make that really easy. In most books I read one swipe results in two "pages" being flipped at once.

You do realize purses can get heavy. That said I saw one yesterday that you could fit a laptop in. It was vinyl and fugly.

Hoping I can find a sleeve relatively soon. It might fit in the iPad mini sleeve I'm using for my Kobo Aura One. The Oasis is a tiny bit wider though.
