The apartment I lived in for 22 year had the cable lines on the poles along with the electricity and phone. It was also a part of town that had big old houses and big old trees. Power outages were common and not always of short duration as tree branches pulled down wires in various storms.

Where I live now, everything's underground. I was so excited, after 22 years of resetting my clocks everyone other week, thinking I'd never have a power outage again.

Two months after I moved into my current place, we had a HUGE storm. Approximately 1 mile east, we have one of those major commerce roads (mile after mile of strip malls, lots of traffic). Well, on that road, the poles toppled over one after the other like dominoes. We lost power for 4 days because they fed our underground wires.

That's what I got for gloating - even if just to myself.

I've bought audible books with my current amazon account and have no problems having them "synch" with my kindle ebooks. However, I've bought audible.com audio books several years with a different account and was wondering if it would synch with an ebook if I purchased it now.

Different account? No. They won't sync. If you use an Amazon account, then it doesn't matter which you buy first, the eBook or the Audible book, they will sync IF they're marked "WhisperSync for Voice Enabled" on the Audible site, or "Audible Narration Ready" on the Amazon site. Unfortunately, not all books are so marked. And no, there's nothing you can do about the books in the other account - I know, cause I have a bunch of them myself.

In all seriousness, Amazon and Audible, as businesses, may not have been in sync (no pun intended, but if you take it that way I'm pleased), and no one has thought about that. I would email them, if not send them a (perish the thought!) snail mail--in something permanent, as opposed to what a representative on the phone might come away with--and bring it to their attention. Snail mail might be a lot of trouble, but it's more likely to be read and not discarded. And with all of the books that you have, it might be worth the trouble.

You've been able to link a "non-Amazon" Audible account to your Amazon account for quite a while. What you can't do is link TWO Audible accounts to a single Amazon account. Many of us have more than one, for whatever reason. I closed off the second account, leaving it alive, but no subscription, when it became clear that there was no way to link it all into my Amazon account. And then upped my main Audible account to Platinum (2 credits a month). But there are still some 300 books in that no longer used account. Given WhisperSync, I wish I could have them linked to Amazon. I _do_ enjoy re-reading books, and having the ability to go back and forth when re-reading would be nice. But I don't expect this to ever change because of the DRM requirements that the Audible contracts include.

Not as inexpensive as Whispersync deals that I prefer to post. And, there's not as wide a gap between the Whispersync deal and the price of the audio alone (the Whispersync deal is "only" 53% cheaper) as Whispersync deals that I prefer to post.

I'm posting this because, outside of religious literature (which I am almost certain that this is not) the subject is so rarely addressed in books or anywhere else! But I think that it's an important one.

Unfortunately, I've blown my book budget big time this weekend, and I don't feel like I can afford to buy the deal at this time. Maybe I can afford to buy the ebook while it's so cheap ($1.99), and get the audio later.

If you'll excuse me, I need to go join the ebook addicts thread here on MobileRead, and try to get some help. ha
