For non-romance, some nice long books are The Stand by Stephen King, The Host by Stephanie Meyer, Swan Song by Robert McCammon. All three are excellent, or at least, I thought so.

I didn't bring any DTB with me so I plan on buying something to read there. I read all of Julie James's FBI/US Attorney series over this vacation and would like something in the same vein.
So you need something that's a recent release or is there a used bookstore you can shop at?

How 'bout something by Jill Shalvis? Or Kristan Higgins? They don't have quite the verbal sparring Julie James manages to do - she's most excellent at that!

My go-to author for anyone looking for similar to Julie James's dialogue-driven writing is Lauren Layne (and then Jill Shalvis). Just beware the excessive use of italics. I think her New York's Finest could be a match. Go with the third book, Cuff Me.

There's also Emma Chase's The Legal Briefs series. Sustained and Appealed are great—choose either and skip the first book. Male POV, but it's very well done.

For something fun and recent, how about Tamara Morgan's Stealing Mr. Right?

Someone just recommended Pamela Clare's I-team series.

Thanks for the suggestions! I actually lost my cell phone today while sightseeing in Dubai, so I can't even use that to read on the plane. I called the restaurant where I last knew I had it but they hadn't seen it. My guess is it fell out of my pocket or purse in the cab on the way home. I feel just sick about it because I've never lost anything like that before. I remotely put on the Google lock screen to call my hotel if found and if it's not fiund soon I'll just wipe it.
I realized my ds has an old cell phone with him on the trip so I'm stealing that one for now and downloading some titles that I had used Scribd credits on but not read. Ebook junkies will always find a way

Oh no can you use Google to locate your phone? Does that feature work out of the country?

I've done it when I check on Hubby's location but I'm not sure if it works in another country. Worth a try though!

Stealing Mr. Right by Tamara Morgan

Spoiler:
I'm a wanted jewel thief.
He's FBI.
What's that saying? Keep your friends close...and your husband closer.

Being married to a federal agent certainly has its perks.

1. I just love the way that man looks in a suit.
2. This way I always know what the enemy is up to.

Spending my days lifting jewels and my nights tracking the Bureau should have been a genius plan. But the closer I get to Grant Emerson, the more dangerous this feels. With two million dollars' worth of diamonds on the line, I can't afford to fall for my own husband.

It turns out that the only thing worse than having a mortal enemy is being married to one. Because in our game of theft and seduction, only one of us will come out on top.

Good thing a cat burglar always lands on her feet.

Penelope Blue series:
Stealing Mr. Right (Book 1)
Saving Mr. Perfect (Book 2)
Seeking Mr. Wrong (Book 3)

Horrible. It makes me wonder if you ran into a pickpocket. It can happen to anyone. Around here if you set your wallet, phone down it will be gone. People are bold they don't care about witnesses. One lady set her wallet down to put a drink lid on her drink. A hand grabbed her wallet the minute she did. All on camera.

Thanks for the support and suggestions. I ended up buying Not Quite a Husband by Sherry Thomas at the Kinokuniya in Dubai. Then I didn't read at all on the plane I listened to the Freakonomics podcast which was on the in-flight entertainment system and tried to sleep.

That's on my TBR list for this year. I'm trying different historical authors for 2017.
