Well I'm going to admit now that the very first video on Amazon's kindle oasis' page is the first Oasis I've seen that is totally uniform in colour. HOWEVER, I'd wager that they did something to the white balance of that video, as I don't remember the screen being that damn blue! It's almost like, an electric, UV blue which if if i feel like being totally paranoid is ashamedly deceptive. So I'm wondering if in some conditions the fault is not obvious (and/or: its just a non-faulty device).
Either way, hope Kobo gives them a decent run for their money and to everyone complaining about not having a faulty device, plz stop. And its true - on the goodereader review of the Oasis on YouTube, their unit also has a distinct gradient with cones. And they completely bypassed it. So maybe it just doesn't bother them? If so, lucky them. Last edited by cerem0ny; 06-26-2016 at 06:51 AM. |

Plz stop, seriously? The only proof I require is what I see with my own eyes. Bought three, all light level perfect. So we should stop saying it because you and Maru disagree. Not going to happen.
Based on some posters here I looked at the Kobo web site. Initial interest in Aura H2O due to more book like size but then looked at the weight. Weighs more without the cover by almost twice. And the huge bottom bezel would make it ungainly to read one handed. I can see a niche market for those who need waterproof but most of us do not take our tablets or ereaders near the water. |

While I do believe that some people are move sensitive to color gradients and others don't see them or don't care about them, there is also quite a bit of variation between devices and you may be one of the lucky ones who got a near perfect screen on your Oasis first try. I'm one of those who see the color gradients and shadows and don't have to go in a dark closet or turn the light all the way up to see them. After returning 3 Voyages I got my 4th that I consider near perfect and so much better than the other 3 I had. It really is a lottery unfortunately. As much as I like new tech, after 2 failed tries with the Oasis I'm giving up and staying with my Voyage.

The dark closet test is just to show those who aren't very discerning what their defective screens look like to those of us who can see the faults. |

Your claimed superiority in sight and discernment is really quite boring and not a little condescending. I see the point in posting that not every Oasis has a perfect screen. But posting that all are bad is contradicted by the experience of many, both here and in reviews on Amazon.
I do have to chuckle at your screen name. It is an unwinnable scenario for anybody to state they have a good screen. |

Or maybe many do not want to play your games. Most of us do not read from a picture taken of our screen. You may, I would not hazard a guess.

Speaking about perception, good example is an amazon user review from the 13th of June where they actually update their own Oasis review saying that their initial review claimed there are no light gradients at all, but now they see them on their first device as well as on the replacement. So they even looked out for the issue but didn't see it. Until, well, you see it and possibly forever from then on. Maybe you'll never notice it. Maybe there are devices where you just cannot notice it but the number must be pretty low.

I wish I had the privilege of being upset that I didn't have a faulty device. I think I'm just gonna wait out the new Kobo rather than going through the exchange process. In all honesty I just don't care as much/am not as discerning as when I got my Voyage. Particularly as they aren't even being sold in Aussie shops any more - they used to be sold at Officeworks but it looks like they don't sell them any more? Which is strange, they sold out very quickly...
I do find interesting however that Amazon Germany outright declines any exchanges of ereaders, only refunds. Obviously they are the most discerning nation ![]() ![]() Happy reading ![]() |

I wonder for how long. The voyage had similar issues.
Also I saw some Amazon exec quoted about acknowledging that the Voyages faulty screen was a direct result of a manufacturing issue and that they have since ironed out the fault and every voyage now will have a perfect screen, but can't find that post anywhere, I think it was inside of an article about the Oasis? I cant for the life of me find it anywhere now though, does anyone have any ideas where it is? Last edited by cerem0ny; 06-27-2016 at 07:34 AM. |

It seems rather unlikely that any manufacturer would claim that their devices would have a "perfect screen". That's a purely subjective description - who defines what "perfection" is when it comes to a screen? Some screens certainly have more colour and/or brightness variation than others, but whether that constitutes a problem is very much in the eye of the beholder. Eg, you stated that you were "very happy" with your Oasis, but some people have found the brightness variations to be troublesome. I'm equally happy with my Voyage, but some see colour variations in the screen that are imperceptible to me. What's fine for one person isn't for another. Everyone's perception differs.

Let's face it, the thing is:
- The issue is not an issue of production quality but design/technology used - Amazon won't be able to produce a device that does not have this issue - Amazon won't admit this but when people complain about the issue amazon says the issue isn't expected and they send a replacement - Many people are able to use the device without a problem in spite of this issue - Many people are not able to use this device because of this problem - It is disappointing that an expensive e-reader like the Oasis has an issue that prevents many people from using it even though they'd love to use it - We can only hope for them to eliminate this issue in their next device, if there'll be any |
