A free MP3 download of Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band performing Prince's Purple Rain is available via a link on this page. Competent version, performed on 4/23. I find myself wondering if they already knew the song, or learned it in just a few days. Particularly impressive if the latter.

Regardless of their motivation, their great deals probably help their overall sales. I don't buy much music, except when I run across great deals like Google Play often has. But when I want to buy music, Google Play is the first seller that I think of now! In fact, a moment ago I was struggling to think of who else sells music and I was having a difficult time thinking of anyone else! |

From Bruce Springsteen to classical . . . .
This week's free download is Robert Schumann's shamefully neglected duet 'Ich bin dein Baum', performed by soprano Lucy Crowe, baritone William Berger and pianist Iain Burnside. It comes from Duet, a recording from Delphian which sets out to demonstrate the strength of duet repertoire, which has 'fallen out of fashion' since its zenith in the Victorian age. 'Crowe and Berger are vocal soul mates' writes Hilary Finch, and Iain Burnside plays with 'nimble fingers'. This recording was Choral and Song choice in the March issue of BBC Music Magazine. Someone (it doesn't say who) said, "This 'delectable recital' is a 'small miracle to be cherished'." I listened to the whole piece, it's about 5 minutes in length. I didn't detect any quality issues. There's only an MP3. If you haven't downloaded from Classical-music.com before, I will tell you that downloading is easy peasy. If you have an account with Classical-music.com, log in from this this webpage. After you've logged in, there should be a red "Download Now" superimposed over the thumbnail of the album cover on that webpage. Click on it. The file should automatically save to your hard drive. Open the file manually, if it doesn't do it automatically. Last edited by GtrsRGr8; 04-25-2016 at 09:45 PM. |

Google Play currently has 40 tracks for 69 cents each. There looks to be something for just about everyone. https://play.google.com/store/recomm...jKfKw8&c=music

UPDATE: I had an opportunity to listen to both the MP3 and WMA of this approximately 7 minute piece. They sound fine. You may download with confidence.
Alexander Street's new free download is Ballade No. 2 in F major, op. 38 by Frédéric Chopin. This week's recording features Frédéric Chopin's (1810–1849) Ballade No. 2 in F major, op. 38, performed by Abdel Rahman El Bacha. Try downloading first from here. For some reason, I didn't have to log in this time, for some reason. I haven't had time yet to listen to either (MP3 and WMA) of the tracks to make sure that there aren't any production quality issues. Last edited by GtrsRGr8; 04-27-2016 at 09:51 PM. |

Good Possibility of a $6 VUDU Credit. But You've Got a Few Hoops to Jump Through.
I placed an online order with Walmart for $50+ yesterday. I got an email confirmation. At the exact (hour and minutes) same time, I received an email from Walmart thanking me for being a valued customer (blah, blah, blah) and giving me a code for a $6 VUDU credit. I freely admit that I'm not the brightest bulb in the chandelier, but I have to believe, because of the timing of the email, that I received the credit as a result of placing that order.
YMMV, of course. But if you're willing to do business with Walmart (and VUDU), you might want to try it out and see if you get the same results, by placing an online order with Walmart. Frankly, I loathe Walmart and VUDU (because Walmart owns them) and don't care whether they get any new business off of this or not, but I am interested in my fellow MobileReaders and some of you might get some benefit from this. Even if you try this and the deal does not pan out for you, you're really not out anything. You're gonna load up on things that you would have bought at a bricks & mortar store anyway, right? And the prices on Walmart's website are the same (Rollbacks and clearance items included) as they are at the B&M stores. The promotion seems to be tied to Mother's Day, because the email with the VUDU code said to "treat Mom to a new movie" (Mom doesn't watch movies, so I guess that I'll just have to use it for myself. ![]() A couple of other ways to save money with Walmart online . . . . orders over $50 ship free (the free shipping is unpredictable in speed, but usually slow). Also, if you have Discover cards issued by Discover, you can save 5% by starting from the Discover website's "rewards" area and using your Discover card for the purchase. Please do everyone else a favor. If you try this and do not get the same results that I did or if you do get the same results that I did, please make a post to that effect if no one else has yet done it, so that others will know. Oh, yeah, the online Walmart's URL is simply walmart.com. VUDU's is simply vudu.com. Fine print: VUDU-enabled device and account required for digital viewing. Must redeem by 5/26/16. This offer is non-transferable. Movies are only available in the U.S. and customers must be 18 years or older to open a VUDU account. Limit 1 per customer. Paramount has a YouTube channel called the Paramount Vault where they're posting full older movies (most not what you'd call A list
