I've just updated my reading list for 2016. I'm making a push to see how many more then my stated 60 books can I finish.

I update my list after finishing nearly every book (sometimes I have to catch up...). it helps me keep track of my progress, and also gives me a little perspective on what I am reading and maybe what I should be reading. Or not. I am trying for a better balance between rereads and new reads (whilst trying to not bust my non-existent budget).

I've finished my 100th book of the year over the weekend. I'm even a little bit ahead on page count compared to the last couple of years. However, I did have a bit of a reading slump over the last couple of months. But it seems like I'm reading more lately, so I should still be able to reach 40000 pages by the end of the year.

I'm liking my one theme a month challenge so far. I notice that I've read quite a few books that have been on my TBR for a long time. The downside is that I do neglect my currently active series and it clutters my Kindle (each month I add a bunch of books related to that month's theme and I don't read them all).

Five sixths of the way through the year, and how am I doing?

2016 Challenges:
  1. FAILED: To finish 2016 with my TBR below 700
  2. SUCCEEDED: To read my 75 unread ebooks bought before 1st July 2008
  3. FAILED: To spend no more than £20 per month on average

TBR currently 808 after a recount in October. There's no way I'll make 700. If I'm lucky I'll end up with net zero for the year.

I have read or discarded my oldest unread ebooks. Hooray! I'm going to try to continue this progress next year.

Current monthly average is £30.79. Whoops. Perhaps I can get it back down below £30 by the end of the year.

I have reached a figure of 99 books this year, and with 3 months on hand, I will no doubt achieve my target of 120 books for the year. I did not buy a single book this month, and will resist myself buying more during October too. Although I have made made up my mind to to buy at least five books next month on my birthday.

I spent this weekend to deeply (and ruthlessly) study my TBR and wish list for a long awaited clean-up, and I was successful to cut down the number of some freebies and other books which I bought earlier but have no mood to read them. I did not delete those books, but zipped and uploaded to my cloud space, so I don't see their faces for a while. Although I had expected to cut down my TBR upto 800 books, but I feel I am greedy person.

Anyhow, I reached to a somewhat decent statistics as below:

99 books finished during the year.
TBR - 988 Ebooks, 23 Pbooks, 38 in Wish list.
Books bought this year - Ebooks 13, Pbooks 0, Freebies 24.

Now my goal will be to keep my TBR below 1000 at any cost.
Another month of the year has passed. It was satisfatory one, as I could finish another 10 books from my TBR. Only one book bought during the month, and no freebies added strictly.

Now I have reached a total of 109 books read this year. 11 books to go for the annual target of 120, which I will comfortably achieve.

TBR - 982 Ebooks, 21 Pbooks, 38 in Wish list.
Books bought this year - Ebooks 16, Pbooks 0, Freebies 24.

I've achieved my main target of 75 books for the year two months early. Yay! I have also surpassed my goal of an average page count per book of 300 pages (302 ).

Only goal left is to read a book from each of 40 categories in the Something for Everyone challenge. I have read 37 of them, and am on track to knock off the remaining 3 before year end. Another Yay!

I said this before and I would like to say it again, how many of us have achieved the original goal of reading 100 books in a year? I have and I am still working my way towards my goal of 150.

I might get over 90 books this year which would be a high for me. Neither November or December is typically a very good reading month for me though so it is completely up in the air.

For status, I have checked one more book off the Something for Everyone challenge and only have 4 to go. I did modify the category from "A Political Memoir" to "A Memoir", I have had enough politics this year without reading about more. 6 more days...

Original goal? As far as I was concerened we are choosing our own targets. Did I miss something?

I may make 100 this year, though I'm not trying for it, and I have exceeded that number in past years.

The first challenge thread was in 2010 and was a 'set your own challenge' thread. In 2011 it was part of the read 100 books challenge. From 2012 onwards it's been a 'set your own challenge' again.

See the links in the first post of the list thread.

With two more months to go, I'm seven books ahead of schedule to meet my goal of 168 books. I am also 6700 pages ahead of schedule to read 50,000 pages. I am not, however, close to making my goal of reading one Newbery Award book each month. I've only completed two Newbery's this year -- guess I ought to schedule more of those.

I've had a couple of fantastic months of reading and some not so good. Getting to my goals for the year just demand that I read consistently and don't fall into a slump.

Books read in October:
1. Wicked Business by Janet Evanovich
2. Apprentice in Death by J. D. Robb
3. Witch is When the Floodgates Opened by Adele Abbott
4. Curious Minds by Janet Evanovich and Phoef Sutton
5. The Swarm by Orson Scott Card & Aaron Johnson
6. Precious and Grace by Alexander McCall Smith
7. A Call to Duty by David Weber & Timothy Zahn
8. Witch is When the Hammer Fell by Adele Abbott
9. Wicked Charms by Janet Evanovich and Phoef Sutton
10. Death of a Kingfisher by M. C. Beaton
11. Death of Yesterday by M. C. Beaton
12. Cauldron of Ghosts by David Weber & Eric Flint
13. Away in a Manger by Rhys Bowen

Of these 13 books, all 13 were electronic books. I borrowed 9 books from the library. Two books were from Kindle Unlimited with a total value of $5.98.

Oh, yeah. 100 books was never an issue. Making it to 150 this year is not likely to happen, though I might. But at the current rate I'll only hit about 140 or so.

I doubt I will meet any of my goals this year between illness and family issues, but I've made a good dent in all of them. The one I feel great about was cutting the unread from 2010 and earlier from about 50 to 21. They just kindof hang on you - I spent good money on these and I still hadn't read them! What's left are mostly books that are part of a series where I was waiting to get the earlier book on sale (bad habit I don't do any more).

Hmmmm.... I really don't have a reading target for the year but a quick count since January, 2016 shows I am just over 190 books counting individual books or 158 counting omnibuses as single books. Latest books read were The True Game (omnibus of Peter's books by Sheri S. Tepper), The Confession of Brother Haluin (#15 in Ellis Peters Brother Cadfael series), Women of Future's Past (Kristine K. Rusch, editor), The Art of Living According to Joe Beef (a cookbook of sorts), Shadow of Victory (David Weber), Mother of Demons (Eric Flint) and Pistols for Two (Georgette Heyer). Current reading is The End of the Game (omnibus of Jinian's books by Sheri S. Tepper), Onward, Drake (Mark L. Van Name, editor) and the Grantville Gazette v68.
