If I'm not mistaken, the answer regarding user defined columns in the FAQ should be updated. http://calibre-ebook.com/user_manual...column-for-foo I'm not sure what the recommended way of adding a column should be, so I'm reluctant to personally prepare an answer. |

Title formatting when saving to disk...

I have just upgraded to the latest version of Calibre and I see that it now saves the book titles in a different way "Bones Lovely, The" instead of "The Lovely Bones"... can it be changed back?

This part isn't clear (at least not to me ) You want to "save a single format" (e.g. RTF) into the library, but then delete it? Quote:

 Copyright Symbol Is Getting Clobbered

Kovid, I'm having some difficulty with conversion from HTML to ePub using Calibre. I am converting copywritten articles for an author friend of mine from HTML format to ePub, with his authorization. I am having pretty good success with most of the usual issues concerning the conversion, but when I get to the copyright symbol at the end of his article, it is being translated into something other than a small 'c' inside a circle. It looks like a capital 'S' with an accent over it. Not sure what the name of that symbol is, but it isn't what I am after. How can I direct Calibre to preserve the copyright symbol? The symbol is correct in HTML, it just gets translated into that 'S' when the document goes from HTML to ePub. |

Sorry if I wasn't clear. I just started using Calibre and I missed that option in the user guide. That solves my problem and I thank you for the help. In explanation, I was using Add Books, then Convert Books, and when Convert Books finished it showed in the Detail panel both EPUB and RTF as the formats. What I didn't know was how to remove the RTF at that point. Not a problem now. Thanks again.

OK - I'm glad it's sorted for you. Still, I wonder why you'd want to remove your source format? It's the best copy you have, and you may find next week that you want to run another conversion. It's often difficult to get the exact settings right the first time. You may have to read a book before you realize you should have used different settings. I always leave my source book in Calibre.

Convert a collection of HTML pages in a specific order

I'm trying to create a ebook that will be essentially a collection of blogs arranged in a specific order. I'm using the suggestion in FAQ pages under topic "How do I convert a collection of HTML files in a specific order" I created a html file as shown in the attached document. When I convert the file to EPUB/MOBI format my e-book is my html file converted to EPub format. What I need is to set recursions; i.e. is it possible to set recursion if I'd create my own recipe/or use GUI. In the attached file I want the recursions to be 2. Thanks in advance. |

I'm new to Calibre and Kindle. In fact our first Kindle doesn't arrive till Tuesday. I'm trying to understand the relationship between Kindle and Calibre files. I know I can use Calibre to convert, say an htm file to mobi and I've done that. What I'm wondering is I've now got a directory for the Calibre files and I've got quite a few Kindle books purchased from Amazon. If I download these to my PC, there's another folder of books. Should I be routinely downloading my Amazon books to my PC into the Calibre folder or...? Should Calibre generated Kindle books be kept separate on my PC from original Amazon purchased books or should I not bother downloading from Amazon to my PC at all? |

NO NO, Don't ever put anything into the Calibre folder. Calibre manages that folder ( and the folder contains Calibres managed COPIES of your books, NOT the originals). Download books not already elsewhere on your computer (or attachable as Disk device (Yes! You can copy books INTO the Library from your device, Now using the attached device library GUI, formerly treating it as another drive) Add your books, using one of the dozens of optional methods the interface provides. Then you can offload your Original files to your Archive.
