I have upwards of three (3) main Calibre libraries that are each separately passworded on the Microsoft side. Each library has remote access with passwords. I have not found a way to either run multiple, independent versions of CC so I can work with each library independently (directory structures are different as well) or have a single CC instance that can be configured for multiple, unique libraries. It would appear that if we had a way to identify a library in CC and associate all settings with a given instance of a Calibre main library, this could be done. Each library today has between 2,500 and 5,000 books on various topics.

Thoughts?

Bob
Unfortunately CC is not designed to handle multiple separate libraries, and changing that is far more work than I want to do.

One thing that some people do to handle both virtual and physical libraries is to create a custom column that names the library or libraries that a book is in. If you have multiple physical libraries then you add that column to each of them using the same column configuration information. You next add that column to CC's grouping drawer, giving you a list of libraries in the drawer. Long-pressing on one of the items (libraries) asks CC to show only books in that library. You can then use the rest of CC including the grouping drawer to explore that library. See our FAQ answer Sorting, grouping, and searching tips, and in particular the 6th paragraph.

You can also use CC's file template system to choose different directory structures based on the above-suggested column. See the Advanced Techniques section of the FAQ answer What can I use in a CC file name template?.

Finally, if you create multiple users on your device(s) then each user would have a separate instance of CC. Of course doing this comes with other costs of having multiple users.

Hi Chaley

I've just bought CC and have been using it today on my eInk eReader. What I am really missing is the ability to navigate pages up and down in the various lists using the volume buttons. Is there any chance that you could implement this in a future version of CC?

Thanks

My two e-ink readers, a onyx afterglow 2 and an energy systems pro+, both have forward and backward buttons. These work in CC's book list, cover grid, and grouping drawer, although sometimes it takes two presses before CC hears it. Doesn't your reader have those buttons?

Also note that there is an option in Settings / Customize the book list to turn on page up/down buttons in the book list and cover grid.

I also have an Energy Sistem Pro+. There is a setting on the Pro+ to use the forward/backward buttons as volume controls as well, called " Volume function side keys setting", I have this set to on so that I can use the hardware buttons to scroll pages in the Kindle app and Repligo reader.

I have discovered that this is the setting which is stopping CC from page scrolling using the hardware buttons, when this setting is set to on whilst using CC, the hardware buttons just change the volume rather than scrolling the pages.

There are other apps which I have installed that don't seem to mind whether it is set to on or off and the hardware buttons still function as page scrolling buttons, these include AIReader, Moon+, Pocket, Mantano, and the built in FB2

Admittedly I don't use Kindle often on the Pro+ but I do use Repligo as my go to PDF reader because I think it has the best reflowed text I've found.

Is there any way to make it so the hardware buttons still function as page scroll in CC with
"Volume function side keys setting" set to on?

In the meantime I'll set it to off.

I cannot find this setting on mine. Where exactly is it?

Certainly it is possible given that others have done it. My problem is that I don't know how. I will look at it, assuming I can ever find that setting.

My eReader Pro + is this model

It is running stock firmware 3.0.0B and the setting is under Settings/User settings

This setting was definitely there in firmware 2.0.0B as well, I don't know about firmware version 1 as I flashed V2 on the first day.

Interesting.

As far as I can tell I have the same model (Energy_eReaderProP according to Settings / eReader info). I am running version 3.0.0B. The "kernel version" is Energy_eReaderProP_2016011214. The "build number" is Energy_eReaderProP_V2.0.0_2016011214. My settings screen has "Volume keys setting" not "Volume side keys function setting", and it offers only "close" and "open".

It will be moderately difficult to make changes if I cannot test them. That said, I will look at it.

I think close or open will change to use volume keys as page up and down, but I forget which is which.

How very bizarre!

As you can see my model, kernel and build number are all the same as yours.

Actually I've just figured it out whilst writing this post. My language is set to English (United Kingdom), if I change the language to any other English I get the same as you "Volume Keys Setting"

It turns out "Volume Keys Setting" - Open is the same as " Volume function side keys setting" - On

When it is set like this the page scroll buttons no longer scroll the pages in CC but change the volume.

Hope that helps

Item for wishlist - I am using win 7 64

Please consider making the Calibre icon that sits in the taskbar show the progress of the current active task - similar to the Explorer Icon when (say) a file transfer is happening. Explorer has green background gradually moving from left to right, showing approx portion of the task that has been accomplished so far.

Thanks

This request seems to relate to calibre, not CC, right? And by "current task" you mean any time calibre is doing something in the background?

Perhaps she means that she would like the notification in the notification tray when CC is performing a long process. It could show a copy of what was in the popup in the app (asking calibre what it needs, downloading x/y metadata, etc), and at the same time showing an icon in the notification bar that changed to show the approximate percentage done. I believe her request is for the icon part.

I've had this thought for a while. I don't really care about the progress icon, but I think it would be nice to have a "working icon" and a "complete icon" so you wouldn't have to keep checking CC to see when it was finished with a long process.

I classify this as a nice to have if it can be done easily, but not a killer feature.

We already have this sort of notification for database upgrades and cloud/content server bulk downloads. It shouldn't be difficult to add it for wireless device sending books. I will look at it.

Wish List :c)

2 things...

1. Grid view when connected to the content server.
2. When connected to the content server please give us a way to see books marked read w/o having to tick on each book and look at all the info.

Implementing this would be a lot of work. It would also need to be done in the cloud connection. I will add it to the list, but don't hold your breath.

This is very difficult to do (read: would be extremely slow) because the information is not available until all the book's metadata is downloaded. For performance reasons CC only downloads the metadata when you ask to see it.

Depending on your workflow, you might be able to solve this problem using a virtual library by setting up the content server connection to use a VL to restrict what you see to books that are (or are not). If that is of interest and you don't know how to do it, post in the calibre forum for help.
