I came across this a few days ago and it makes an enormous difference when using my Aura HD in the dark.

I'm extremely grateful that not only have you written this hack but that you've made it freely available.

nightmode on Kobo Aura
Just tried it on my brand new kobo Aura, works fine (with and without light on,which can still be adjusted).Just be careful to get the
kobo-nightmode_build13.zip
because other builds won't work for firmare 3.3
from france for this great trick
(I was just a little confused upon installing, because the installer and uninstaller folders each have a file named KoboRoot.tgz, and it wasn't very clear to me which one to use (or both?),anyway, the one to go for is in the "installer one",and the other one is to remove nightmode (I would just have deleted it from the kobo. folder, but I guess that wouldn't be advisable)

Oh, is that why nightmode_build12 didn't work on mine? I thought I was doing something wrong. Where did you get build13 from?

Now I tried to toggle the night mode by push and hold home button, and it works on my touch. But when I try to toggle it via fmon, the device freezes.

Since nothing at all happens on your device, I wonder whether the night mode hack is completely installed. Did you by chance install some other hack after the night mode hack that could have replaced the rcS file?

Edit: I just saw that at one point you tried the Kobo Start Menu. If you are still running it on your device, this is the culprit. Since the night mode did not nicely work on my device (when toggled via fmon), I disabled it (as I mentioned). See how to enable it here. I will upload the modified file on the same post for those who don't want to edit it by themselves.
