New Reader with great pdf-support: Mantano Reader (like aldiko+ezpdf)

I decided to cut my losses with Amazon and buy the app again in the Market. I just can't chance not being able to use the app simply because I can't check in online with Amazon. Also, the wait for updated versions of Mantano is too long (still on 1.2.4). If it were some game app or file manager it wouldn't be a big deal to wait it out.

I just found out the DRM on Amazon apps is up to the developer not Amazon.

I agree the wait is too long. I would ask Amazon for a refund. They should give it. I have no choice but to wait I don't have the funds to rebuy the program at the moment.

Any chance we can get an updated User Manual to go along with the fabulous updates included in 1.5.#? The latest one is dated July 28th. Oh, thanks again for a professional app. This is like something you would purchase off the shelf at a store. Remarkable work. The effort is appreciated.

I'm loving the night mode on top of Sepia! Soft and warm. Quite cozy.

Also, thanks for the action bar in Honeycomb. Major points for that. Wish many more apps would include it.

I was curious about the DRM issue and found this:

Using Apps Purchased from Amazon Appstore
Once you've downloaded and installed your apps, you can find your apps listed alongside all of your other application purchased from other marketplaces. From the home screen of your device, press the press the Apps button to find a list of your application.

Because your application purchases are tied to your Amazon.com account, you will not be able to use apps if you have signed out from the Amazon Appstore. To use the apps that you've purchased, please sign back into your account on the Amazon Appstore app.

Appstore has to be running in the background and you have to be logged in. When I mention this in another thread I was informed that the DRM is optional and up to developer. So it might not be all apps just certain ones. To find out simple log out of the app store then see which ones you can still use.

Sure go ahead and make a new thread. I'm not sure many know there is DRM on Amazon apps and I doubt everyone reads this thread.

I can confirm Mantano has DRM when bought from Amazon. *grumbles*

improvement:
1 page turning bugs have been partly fixed.
when viewing in fit width mode, turning page,then the next page will show from begining
2 page tunring animations can be disabled totally. now page turning is very smooth,reading experience for eyes has been greatly improved


bugs still exist
1 when adjusting page size by zooming in or out, turning page by swipe or tap, next page will not show from begining

2 animations effects when draging page up and down or left and right can not be turned off . This greatly impacts the comfortableness for eyes when reading in small screen.

here are some suggestions

1 a slide bar for adjusting brightness, when tap the screen, a slide bar for quick page selection will appear, but not slide bar for adjusting brightness, at the top of screen is book title,this is useless. when reading the book , everyone know the title of it. the book title can be replaced by a slide bar for adjusting brightness

2 uniform pop up menu style
pop up menu can have black background,white character , and green selection bar

3 toolbar button selection
In reader setting, there should be an option to choose which toolbar button to appear.

I don't want the title of the book replaced. You can adjust brightness by sliding up and down along the left side of the screen. I would like a slider bar for brightness too. Perhaps a "brightness" icon next to the Night Mode icon. Clicking on the icon would present the typical brightness sliding bar. Just don't get rid of the book title.

Looking very nice, in general it is running much smother. For me the most appreciated fix was the screen toggle issue. Having the menus come when swipe or select text was extremely distracting.

A question and issue.

*Will there be support to zoom into images in ePUB format? This is a feature that is sorly lacking.

* Also the TTS has a bug in it. After the upgrade the TTS quit working. It would give a generic message "Language not supported" with two buttons <Settings> and <Cancel>. I finally found the work around. I had to select a dictionary and that seemed to fix the problem. Not a very intuitive workaround.

So, rant on - I hate android - I just want to read books and delete them off when I'm finished - so android is required, but I still have to go around my elbow to delete books. Ok, rant off.

I love Mantano! However, when I put it on my android main screen and open a book, I can't get back to Mantano by pressing it's icon - it just takes me to the current book, To get to Mantano for a new book, I have to go through shortcuts - then I can't delete the previous book because the delete box is missing. I've looked and looked through the user manual and can't find the answer. Am I doomed to just keep adding books until the NC if filled? (yes, I do delete through the pc, but it is just as bad as the original nc os - I have to write down the books I want to delete and then go delete them). I know I'm missing something. Help!

Also, Mantano, I would love a setting on the book screen that would allow me to delete, from both the Mantano db and the file itself when I finish the book (maybe at the point where I'm asked to rate it!)

You can delete quickly from the home screen. Select the "Details" view and each book will have a box than can be checked off. When the box is checked, a menu appears at the top with a trash can icon and others. Select the trash can icon and you get a delete confirmation and you can also delete the file (not just remove it from Mantano's library).

To get back to the home screen from within a book you should be able to tap in the middle of the screen to bring up the menus (top and bottom). Then touch the upper left hand corner of the screen where it says MANTANO Reader. That takes you home. Again, the quickest way to delete is to make sure you're in "Details" view with a check box next to each book.

That is my problem - I can't get to the Mantano home screen. When I touch the Mantano icon, it takes me to the current book, not the home screen. I've tried putting the icon as a shortcut on the android home screen and it still takes me to the current book. What should I be doing to get to the Mantano home screen. Thanks so much - you are always a great help.
