Okay folks, I got a chance to test out the mCover that I got yesterday. Initial thoughts: 1. it had a funny smell when I opened the package...kinda reminded me of Icy/Hot. While not horrible, not really the most pleasant. The smell has remained all day. A co-worker suggested I put a dryer sheet in it, so I've got that cookin' right now....let you all know if that helps any. 2. Appearance - wow! From the pictures, I wasn't sure what color blue to expect but I was very happy when I saw it in person! This is a very rich, deep royal blue. Very pretty color. The inner pocket (inside front cover - see pics below) is a lighter blue than the lining or the outside, but still very nice. 3. Construction. This isn't the greatest case in the world, but it was only $14 and it is a temp case anyway. My main beefs? The lower corner tabs don't sit flush with the side of the kindle, especially the lower right corner (again, see pics) While I didn't notice any movement when carrying it around all day, I can see this potentially being an issue. Also, I'm not really a fan of the elastic band that keeps the cover closed. I can see this wearing out, as elastic is wont to do. Overall impression: Great appearance, funny smell (that I hope to rectify), some minor construction issues, but all in all not a bad little case, especially for the price! OH!! And it withstood the abuse that is my work bag, so I'm gonna go with 3.5/5 I may raise this to 4/5, depending on how my dryer sheet experiment goes... EDIT: I forgot to mention weight!! This cover is lightweight while still being fairly durable. Not as light as a nekkid Kindle of course, but not a huge difference! This was a concern for me because I have fairly small hands and carpal tunnel in my wrists - no problems with intermittent reading at my desk. I usually read for a few hrs solid at night and didn't have any problems last night either. Last edited by bornmusician; 04-01-2011 at 09:53 PM. |

Update: the black version of the above cover is now $9.99 the pink version is $11.95 the blue is still $13.95 not a bad little bargain, especially if you take advantage of the black one for $9.99 |

The hemp that dogs sniff out is unprocessed or refined. This is made of a finely knit woven material and so it lacks any odour. It is a great cover for the kindle. I'm tempted into purchasing another one just for another colour and some variety.

I've been looking for a lightweight, hard case lately. Maybe a faux book? I've been looking through the thread pages and there seem to be so many. Primarily I'm looking for something decent, but cheap (meaning not over $30-50) that will protect the screen in my backpack. bornmusician, is that mCover case hard?

@metoo999 Yes, the mCover is hard, both on the front and back covers. It's also lightweight, which you mentioned. I'd say that the cover and kindle together don't weigh more than an average size paperback. I carried this around in my work bag yesterday (with various other goodies of all shapes and sizes) and the cover protected perfectly. And it's definitely cheap - right now the black one is $9.99 on amazon |

I use a padded (neoprene?) pencil case for mine - cost me 99p, fits perfectly and will do until I can find or make something classier.

I have the black mCover case. Love it! I'd like to find some sort of pouch or sleeve, top opening, to slip the kindle with cover inside of, to go inside my backpack purse. Anyone know of one that would fit a kindle with cover?

I'll do that, manou. I think the netbook/Ipad sleeves would be bigger than what I want. |

Just ordered an Oberon cover. Pricey, pricey. But it looks to be worth it. People seem only to have good reviews.

I have now had my third kindle break on me (the .. inside of the screen breaks... it's like half the e-ink inside has spilt and turned into a big inky broken puddle; the outside surface of the screen is unmarred). I am looking for the sturdiest and strongest case in existence because it's pretty obvious my kindle is somehow getting knocked about in my bag and broken during the day and I need something way better at taking whatever is damaging my kindles. Right now I just use the official amazon case (like I did with my k2 which is still in perfect condition and was carried in exactly the same way) and it's not cutting it. Any suggestions? |

I just saw the Oberon Sleeves for the K3. I have a work trip planned at the end of the month. Maybe it is time for a K3 for travel purposes and the DX as a home Kindle. This is very, very bad. http://www.oberondesign.com/shop/car..._detail&p=1434 The Cloud Dragon is gorgeous Last edited by ProfCrash; 04-05-2011 at 03:15 PM. Reason: Cloud Dragon not Sky Dragon |
