Zatan, maybe you've done this correctly, but the Duokan boot screen takes a minute or so to appear. It appears after progress bar in the Kindle boy-under-tree screen reaches about 20%. Then it is only there for a few seconds. Pushing Q (or 1 in the case of Kindle 2) will do nothing before you see the Duokan boot screen in Chinese.
If it still isn't working, I'd delete the DK_System folder, and copy it over again, along with the right .bat update file. Make sure you aren't using the uninstall.bat files! |

![]() 1. Duokan doesn't use the Kindle Collection. I don't organize mine as I only have 50-ish items and can generally find what I need quite quickly. Although I do organize the folder structure in the Kindle and in the home screen I can press "search" or "Z.All CAT" if I know the author's name or book's title. 2. I'm not sure what you mean. During the boot up or from stand-by (screensaver). If from stand-by, mine's not slow at all. Happy reading! |

A good thing is that when you update, your preferences for individual books are not lost. Actually, I may be wrong about that. Maybe there is a way of editing one of the systemconfig.ini files before installation. Last edited by montalex; 01-01-2011 at 01:46 PM. Reason: second thoughts... |

Nope - don't believe you did. ( there is a reset to factory default under Amazon Kindle system menu - if you use that one, it should wipe out Duokan system folders and all your books )
A "hard reset" ( my word here may not be the best..) but by holding power on button for 20-30 seconds, may have it restart with with the Amazon logo. When it has booted up a 3rd, the Duokan boot up menu may flicker on. You have to catch it, as else it may time out and go to the usual software. |

Installing fonts
Happy New Year.
I installed duokan on both a K3 and a DXG (12/31/2010, no jailbreak etc.). The fonts that come with the system are different on either, interestingly enough, but neither look good for English text. I tried to add fonts taken from the fonthack following ideas others have posted (put into DK_System/system/fonts, only use ttf). However, the fonts do not show up as available. Actually, on my kindle there was no DK_System/system/fonts directory, so I just created one. Any ideas how to get the fonts to show up? Somebody earlier mentioned that fonts might be limited to 7 only. This seems to match the number of those already installed, but how can I remove these or replace with my new ones? Hints are appreciated... |

And how did you solve it then? Is it irreversible? Or can you fix it anyway? |

I can't resist trying each new Duokan version. It is quite easy to install and update, and seems quite stable at this point. I only use it for pdf, though, but that is enough to make it worthwhile. I used to spend hours with ABBYY Reader converting pdf's to html, fixing them in html, then converting to mobi. Now I can just read the pdf's in Duokan. |

"If the preconfigured english version doesn’t work for you, try to install the chinese version (check the Duokan archive at http://www.netzbeben.de/dl/duokan/ ). If the chinese version works for you, edit DK_System/DK_Update/dxg/DK_System/config.ini and change language=1 (chinese) to language=2 (should be english for DX/G) or language=3 (should be english for K2/K3). After that, reinstall. If this happens to you, please post the correct language mode for your system. I test every release with my K3, so this should always work." I think that English for K2 might be 2 also. My version for K2 had only 2 language choices. |

Kindle 3, Calibre, Duokan, and Font Sizes
Does anybody know the answer to this? I am using Calibre to convert books to bigger font sizes - any changes I make are reflected by Kindle accordingly. However, when I use Duokan, it seems I always get the same font sizes regardless whether I set Calibre to 30 points or 12 points...

you can set the font in the kindle itself. Since they are flowing documents.
Just press alt in the reading document I believe..you get then a menu with different font sizes. If that does not work, the Duokan options allows you to choose different size fonts. I have not tested it yet and the Kindle is not on hands right now. |
