IN this case, I think you're doing the right thing. You can throw away the freebies you're not going to read later.

I don't see any free ebooks. Must not be available to Canadians. (Not like I need more books anyways.)

Well, the results are in; I just finished adding my haul to Goodreads. (That GR/Amazon link comes in handy, even if it doesn't fill out the "I own it, purchased from Amazon on this date" info.) Grand total: 410 books added to Mount Tsundoku, at a total cost of zero dollars, no cents, and arguably no sense.

That number doesn't account for either one or four duplicates, depending on how you look at a "bought a four-volume series as well as the 4-in-1 collection that was also free" situation. I've also added ten books to a "complete the set" wishlist, where most of a series was free but one or two books in it weren't. I figure I'll hold off on the non-freebies for a bit, until I actually decide I want them... or they go on sale!

Damn, my eyes are tired...

I've had my buying sprees in the end of 2011 (when I got the KTouch), march 2013, and somewhere in the beginning of 2014 (Kobo 90% multi-use code). Since then, I've bought very, very few books; mostly only continuations in series I have been reading for many years, or books that were recommended and very cheap/on sale.

Maybe I should unsubscribe from this thread, because I don't feel the need to buy any more books. I have everything I ever wanted, and more. I possibly could read away my entire life without buying anything new, apart from keeping up with authors/series I'm already reading.

I'm struggling this evening. A book I'd like is only $1.99 at Amazon; regular digital price is $19.99.

Obviously this wouldn't break the bank, but buying it would indicate that I'm not going to resist temptation, and I don't "need" it. I'm hoping that by posting here I can bolster my resolve not to buy ebooks this month. Two more weeks to go.

Resolve vs saving $18!!!!!! That's not giving into temptation ... that's a sound fiscal decision!

I didn't make any such promise, luckily, but I'm kind of in the same situation with two sale books. They're both good deals, and I'd probably enjoy both, but I really don't know when I'd read them. It could just be spending money for no particular reason.

If it's something you really want to read, then I'd go for it. It's a significant discount.

Yep. Also, caving on this, the first time I've been tempted, would indicate that I'll give in on just about anything. And there's the reproach of all those books I bought on similar impulse which languish unread.

I think that it's justifiable if you put this book at the very top of your TBR pile, to be read when you finish your current book.

I've just fallen to the Gateway SF sale. But it's a UK only sale, so you're safe.

If you're going to read the book, and read it soon? Buy it at that price! Crazy not to. If it's "just another book for my TBR"? Resist. Promises and pledges are fine, but you do need to use some common sense. No matter how you look at it, this is a huge discount for a book you want to read.

I think the "read it soon" is the crux; I could make an exception for that. But otherwise, I need to develop my resistance chops. It helps a lot to back off and not buy a book in the first rush.

I've got 3 or 4 wishlist items in this sale, and I'm sure there are plenty more I could convince myself I want if I put my mind to it, but the first thing I checked was the end date, and it's the 6th of January, so there's no need for any of them to affect this year's figures at all.

And I'm kind of relieved we didn't get the Open Road bonanza.

At the moment I am 3 ahead of my TBR for the year, with 5 time-limited books I kind of want to pick up.

Ow shit.

Next year, the last book of The Witcher series will be translated to English. Njaaargh.... That'll be like 6x €8 or so, without sales.
