After all the drama I was finally able to pick a date to scatter my grandmother's ashes with most, if not all, cousins (one I didn't hear from, his sister said just to pick a date and then he can decide whether to come or not). It'll be on the 25th of September, the plan is to have a drink afterwards, so I asked those that don't have the time for a drink or those who plan to bring kids and/or partners to let me know because I want to book a table.

Now let's see how many realize they actually can't come on the 25th and demand another date. Which I won't do, the only other two dates everyone could come were in October, but one cousin's due date is October 2 and I want to give her a chance to be there, too.

That's good. Just pick a date (and you tried hard to accommodate everyone!) and then stick to that date. I think that's the best plan.

To be honest I have taken my aunt's kids dates more into account than those of the children of my uncle. Mostly because those cousins were a lot closer to my grandmother. Luckily everyone except the son of my uncle was realistic in understanding that picking a date when everyone could come would be difficult. I haven't heard from the son at all, and to be honest I don't really expect him to show up.

We'll see how it goes.

I just celebrated my birthday (just with my parents and sister). Although I will save most of the money I got for our trip to Bruges next month I think I might treat myself to visit to the craftstore on Monday. Lately I've been just getting my kits and any supplies that I had run out of (glue, new blades for my knife, etc) and now I can spend some money on some fun things.

I'm also doing a little happy dance, because I see that it's now 0,1 degree centigrade cooler than it was during last night/early morning. Hopefully it'll drop even more and I can get a proper night's rest.

Trying to calm down. Mom called me the fire alarm and sprinklers was going off at the nursing home. She was panicking! They closed her door and everyone left the floor. My sister was there and they had to yell into the phone because the alarm was ear splitting loud even over the phone.

It stop five minutes into the call and I assured her they knew what they were doing. They have plans in place for this sort of thing. Now I need an aspirin.

Update: She called back. The dishwasher in the kitchen started smoking which set it off.

Cats ... they teach one humility ... and not to expect gratitude ... no matter how much you try to bribe please them ...

So today, whilst vacuuming, I noticed that the scratching boxes needed new cardboard inserts .... so I leap into the car, drive through the overheated and overcrowded Sunday traffic (the pet store is next to a Target superstore) and splurge on new inserts for all the boxes, plus some salmon dinners for Goldie cat to take her pills with, and an incredibly overpriced pouch of Blue Buffalo Duck & Chicken treats ...

All 3 cats crowd around eager to 'help' me empty the plastic bag onto the floor ... Stella keeps panicking and running out of the room every time I rip the plastic off an insert, Sammie climbs onto the new insert before I can put it into the holder and lies down, Goldie keeps wailing for me to open the salmon dinner ....

Finally, all inserts are in place and anointed with fresh catnip ... whereupon all 3 cats visit each scratching box, scritch mightily for around 30 seconds, and then go back to sleep in the sun, waking only once to inhale a sample of the new treats ... and then back to sleep...

It's so nice to be appreciated .... *sigh*

I'm not sure what scratching boxes are? It just goes to show cats lead a really hard life.

My two do not like their food. They miss their Iams. They pic through the Purina One leaving the triangles then demand fresh food every three hours! I threw out half the bag because they refuse to eat it because it was over an hour old. I finally had to get tough. We can no longer waste food as hubby due to gout is unemployed. So I just ignored their wails and pleas and only fill the bowl at certain times of the day. It's taken much patience but they finally will eat most of it and only beg near time for the next meal. I still get woken up to loud meows right in my ears. (They must think I'm deaf) However they get really upset if we eat and don't feed them too. They sit around and stare at you pouting and well Maisy has gotten bold she tries to knock the food out of your hand. She doesn't even eat people food. (Texture remember) I get they are unhappy at losing their Iams but geesh I feel totally unappreciated too. They act like I'm starving them! Anyone want two spoiled cats?

Updating my reading list on my blog. I'm also trying to decide what I want to buy at the craft store. I'm allowing myself to spend €100 of my birthday money on fun things, but I really haven't got a clue what I want to get yet.
