Just One Damned Thing After Another (Book 1 Chronicles of St Mary's) by Jodi Taylor $.99

This is hilarious scifi. Read/listened to the entire series at the beginning of stay-at-home. Check that it is not already in your library - something has changed. I bought in Aug. 2019 and Amazon doesn't indicate that I already own it.

Quote:
'So tell me, Dr Maxwell, if the whole of History lay before you ... where would you go? What would you like to witness?'

When Madeleine Maxwell is recruited by the St Mary's Institute of Historical Research, she discovers the historians there don't just study the past - they revisit it.

But one wrong move and History will fight back - to the death. And she soon discovers it's not just History she's fighting...

Continuing their recent pattern, Penguin Roc has put Blood Rites, Book #6 of the Dresden Files, on sale for $2.99. Here's the Kobo Canada link; I'm confident it'll be the same at the other North American retailers.

This is the sixth book in a row, in order, of the Dresden Files Roc has put on sale. So, now I've got Dead Beat bookmarked to keep an eye on it; wouldn't be surprised to see it go up next in a few weeks.

Again $2.99 at both stores. Part of today's US Kindle Daily Deal, so probably good only for a day. Links in @itisabomb's post below are still good.

Not in Canada, unfortunately. If I had the series in e-book, I might (emphasis on might) re-read it some day.

Lord of the Rings (in one book) is also available for Nook for $2.99...
https://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/lor...9780547951942#

(No longer at Google Books for that price. But was according to Slick Deals.)

(No longer at Apple Books for that price either.)

I picked one up at B&N for old time's sake. The Hobbit was one of the first books I bought on the Nook Simple Touch in 2011, but I bought the Lord of the Rings on my Kindle later... At any rate, I now have the "Nook" LOTR and I've kept my B&N account active for a while longer (had to change my password because I had been inactive for too long). I wouldn't doubt that this the last eBook I buy at B&N.

Back up to $16.99 now, though I already have the individual books and The Hobbit (which is really the only one I'll likely ever re-read).

I gave up on B&N a while ago and that decision was reinforced by seeing that now they also seem to have pulled their Windows 10 app. The one I already have installed continues to work, but still...

Basically I gave up on them when quit allowing you to download books from your Nook library. But I still don't want to see them go away and leave us with less competition. I'm not planning on leaving B&N and Nook (completely), but I figure it will be the other way around. If B&N survives at all, I'm guessing their eBook division will be eventually be sold, probably to Kobo.

I also gave up on B&N. I just get free books now. If I can't archive, I don't buy and archiving is unnecessarily more difficult.

Azure Bonds by Kate Novak and Jeff Grubb is $1.99 Amazon US.

Quote:
Her name is Alias, and she is in big trouble.

She is a sell-sword, a warrior-for-hire, and an adventuress. She awoke with a series of twisting, magical blue sigils inscribed on her arms and no memory of where she got them.

Determined to learn the nature of the mysterious tattoo, Alias joins forces with an unlikely group of companions: the halfling bard, Ruskettle, the southern mage, Akabar, and the oddly silent lizard-man, Dragonbait. With their help, she discovers that the symbols hold the key to her very existence.

But those responsible for the sigils aren't keen on Alias's continued good health. And if the five evil masters find her first, she may discover all too soon their hideous secret.
