Thank you all.
I decided that tonight I'm going to remember my grandmother by watching one of her favourite shows; Murder, She Wrote. The funeral will be held on Tuesday morning, afterwards we're looking into doing something with direct family, excluding my uncle. On the whole Family Thing; it turns out everyone who knows about the situation doesn't agree with what my uncle has been doing. Including his daughters and girlfriend. It's nice to know that, although I wish I would have known that earlier. For the past two and a half years I felt our family was isolated from the rest of the extended family. Some moral support would have been nice. |

My condolences, Rumpelteazer. Keep on trucking.
I'm listening to David Bowie's Rebel Rebel and contemplating a shift in gear to something by Siouxie and the Banshees. |

So what are you doing RIGHT NOW?
Cooking chicken curry with two overly attentive pups laying next to me.

Something good happened today. I don't know what caused it, but my Paperwhite screen got cracked, and there's a hole in it about 1/32" through which a bright, distracting pinpoint of blazing white light is pouring through. You know what this means: I now have no choice but to upgrade to the Kindle Voyage. I just ordered one off Amazon. It should be here sometime Tuesday.

Just finished hanging 2 finch feeder socks -- I'm converting the small area of trees in my back yard into a bird feeding paradise ... well, at least a pleasant place to munch ... So far I have a feeder for songbirds, the 2 finch socks, and a ground feeding station -- to keep the squirrels off the hanging feeders. Stella cat approves ...

![]() I'm trying old fashioned bribery - a ground feeding station with cracked corn, mixed nuts, sunflower seeds, etc. - and filling the song bird feeder with a mix of small seeds with no nuts ... so far the squirrels, doves, cardinals, crows, and other unidentified large birds approve. |

My Dad spent 40 years battling to keep the squirrels off Mom's bird feeders. He tried the spinners, hanging them from tree limbs with wire, suspending them from a wire stretched between two trees, etc. He swore that he could see the squirrels on the ground under the feeders, studying them for weaknesses.
The best approach turned out to be a feeder that was weight-triggered, but instead of spinning it dropped a barrier between the perch and the food. It looked kind of like a knight's helmet with a visor. When anything heavy got near the opening to the food the door would drop shut. I don't think the squirrels ever figured it out, but the birds still spilled enough seed onto the ground to keep them well fed. Last edited by cromag; 02-27-2016 at 08:38 PM. |

Squirrel!
We had to catch some and transplant them elsewhere. They were digging our lawn to pieces because the neighbour a couple of houses down would leave them peanuts and peanuts and more peanuts. |

Squirrels! This is the first year in my memory that my Mom has not had to yell at squirrels to get off the feeder. They have their own feeder plus food on the ground, but they still thought that the food was 'better' in the feeder. What was the change? We have a girl squirrel that seems to be keeping the boys in order. No problems at all this year.
I'm currently converting some audiobooks to Mp3 to put on a flash drive for my brother before he returns to his home state tomorrow. We have tried everything to get the Audible app to work on either his android phone or laptop and it just doesn't work. Even had Audible on the line. Poo. While doing the converting, I'm listening to The Count of Monte Cristo (which I have on CDs). One of my favorite books. |
