I agree with you there. I also liked the thread better when it wasn't constantly on the forefront. Then I knew there was really a milestone to celebrate, whether it was a post count or a membership anniversary.

Then it morphed into celebrating karma counts, which in some cases can jump by thousands within a few days for some people. That in itself isn't an argument.

I understand there are no stated guidelines as to what we consider milestones, but when the thread was first created I took it to mean celebrations of "less common" milestones, big fat round numbers (e.g. 5000, 10000 posts, yearly anniversaries.)

And let's not forget book upload numbers! There are those who may not chat a whole lot, but are very dedicated and prolific in uploading their beautifully formatted ebooks for everyone else to enjoy. These people rarely get mentioned in that regard on this thread anymore, and that's what I originally thought it was all about. I apologize to those people for my part in not being more cognizant of their generous achievements and milestones, and not congratulating them for what THEY have done.

With over 70,000 members now and growing fast, celebrations of every strange and arbitrary number that someone notices, seems like overkill sometimes. It seems to make the mention of them less special somehow.

Besides, I can't keep up with all those milestones mentioned daily for every little thing, and I feel bad when I miss acknowledging each one of them in turn. It's the guilt factor that works on me as much as anything else.

That's my nickel's worth.
