I'm in the process of ordering a new external HDD. My old one was 500GB USB2 and the new one is a WD Elements Portable USB3 2TB. That should be plenty big enough for my films, tv series and photographs for a while.
For €15 more I could have ordered a 3TB desktop version, but HDD is a lot bigger and not USB powered. Although it will usually be connected to my desktop computer I want to be able to easily take it with me when on vacation or when I go housesitting so I can hook it up to my notebook or mediaplayer. |

I will indeed try to have a good time as well. I need to do a good job first and foremost, but I will always try to find good restaurants and sights too. |

My grandson's cat is named "Friday." I might to tell him I want one of them for Christmas. Norton and the cat are getting along better now, but I heard her growling at him this morning when he was a bit too near while she was nursing. I waited until she was out of the room to let him see them up close.

FINALLY got the bird feeder re-hung ... earlier this fall, we had a lot of dead/dying/trash trees removed from the yard, and lower hanging branches trimmed off -- and lost our prime branch for hanging the feeder so it can be viewed from the deck ... and the deck door (by Stella cat)
So yesterday afternoon, full of turkey, I ventured out with a large washer on the end of fishing line and began hurling it at/over the chosen branch (I had my slingshot ready in case I was too puny -- but nailed it on the 4th or 5th toss). The branch held as I pulled the hanging cable over it with a fully loaded feeder. This morning we saw a cloud of cardinals flocking about (I used a wild bird seed with lots of sunflower seeds) - very colorful since all the leaves are down. Stella was thrilled! Later, I saw a young squirrel trying to penetrate the outer wire cage of the 'squirrel-proof' feeder but he was too small to reach the seed tube inside. |

Unfortunately, the local squirrels decided that was a fun ride, and would clamber on deliberately to get spun dizzy and be tossed off. Whee! Next step was mixing hot peppers in the seed. The birds wouldn't taste/notice, but the squirrels would. The last time we paid a visit, the feeder wasn't loaded, so I don't know the current state of the bird/squirrel food competition. ______ Dennis |

We thought about the hot peppers - but were warned that if the seed tube were too small, the fumes could build up and burn the birds' eyes or mouths. So we now use a seed tube encased in a wire cage with holes sized for birds only. Large adult squirrels learn to simply get on the cage and swing/shake it to spill the seed on the ground, but the youngsters try to figure out how to reach the seed. |

Back when his show originated from California, David Letterman remarked about how this was his favorite time of year, or as he put it, "Fall is my favorite season in Los Angeles, watching the birds change color and fall from the trees."

Trying to decide what to watch tonight.
I might give the Alien Quadrilogy another try. The last time I watched the first two and then never continued, despite liking it so far. Or I can continue with Jessica Jones on Netflix, or I can continue with (Inspector) Lewis. But first I have to make tea. |

I'll be spending the day on the road tomorrow, so I'm putting some music on a flash drive for the trip. The minivan's original stereo slowly died (well, just the CD player, but the FM radio is a long "next best" when you're driving 200 miles each way) and I installed a "new to me" Pioneer unit that one of my brothers had sitting in his garage. It has a USB port and an 8GB flash drive holds a lot of MP3s!

My uncle came by to drop off some dvd's he wanted to get rid of. The stack includes all three seasons of Millennium!
I first have to finish Jessica Jones, but that will be my next binge! |
