Packing my rucksack for a few days down in The Big Mango. I'll take the night train tomorrow, 2nd class sleeper compartment, lower berth. It's a 14-hour ride down, so I'll have lots of time for reading and listening to a couple of good books before going to bed, and I should arrive in Bangkok in time for breakfast. I'll spend two days wandering around town, then take the overnight train back. This assumes that the train doesn't derail. That seems to happen at least once or twice a year in Thailand...

I choose 2nd Class sleepers when I travel as the beds are set up better. In 1st Class, the beds are perpendicular to the direction of travel, so when the train rocks side to side, you get rocked head to toe. In 2nd Class, the beds are in line with the tracks so the rocking motion rocks you side to side, just like a hammock. I sleep like a baby in trains!

Cleaning up my desk, again.

I have a project planned for next week (decorate a small wooden box), so I need space. I just cleared my work space. Tomorrow I'll tackle the dreaded pile of stuff next to my work space, I have no idea what I'll find, hopefully most of it can be thrown away. I promised myself if I clear that corner I can buy myself the ink pad spinner I've been wanting for a while.

Right now, taking a break.

Just finished disassembling an old stationary bike and hauling it up, out of the basement, and into the van. Also, started a load of laundry.

Next up, assembling the new stationary bike and starting the next load of laundry.

Listening to the approaching thunderstorm whilst planning an unexpected mini-break.

My sister's going to the annual party of her work. It's held in Noordwijk and since there is no train station getting back home could be difficult. So she booked a room at a hotel. The hotel is for two, and she asked me to come with her. The party is only for employees and their partners so I can't attend (I'm not a party goer anyway) but I'm planning a relaxing night in.

On Sunday we're either going to store our luggage at the hotel and explore Noordwijk, or go to Leiden, where we have to get the train, store our luggage at the station and explore Leiden.

I'm now charging everything that needs to be charged and packing the stuff that can be packed.

I'm at the hotel. The room is nice, simple but clean. I do miss a bedside table/shelf for my glasses and phone. There is a big window between the bathroom and hotel room. When you're in bed you have a great view of the shower cubicle. That's just weird!

My sister is at her company's party. I'm relaxing, watching documentaries and reading on my Kindle.

It wasn't (a pretty shower cubicle). It's especially strange when you know that this hotel focuses on business customers, since they also have spaces to organise training courses, meetings and conferences. It will happen that two colleagues share a room. However, not all rooms have this "feature", some of my sister's co-workers also had rooms in the hotel and they didn't have the bathroom window.

Today was great. Breakfast was available until 11am, we went down around 10am. Afterwards we got our bags, checked out and stored our bags in the locker room. The weather was really nice, so we had a long walk along the beach. Then we found a nice beach pavilion, hidden in the dunes and had a big lunch. After we picked up our bags we went home.

We both had forgotten to take sun lotion so we both have sunburns now. But it was a great day.

Hiding from the sun. Apparently I got sunburned last weekend and didn't realize it. Yesterday at the farmers market reminded me that I do have heat injuries which should be paid attention to

I've had a busy day today. First, my father and I went to the Ikea, I finally got the 2x2 Kallax shelves and two sets of drawers. I also got a letter tray for all my different A4 cardstock. After Ikea we went to one of our supplier to pick up an order. Then my father dropped me off at the craft store and went to another supplier next door. He dropped me off at home and I carried all my stuff upstairs before going to a store to pick up the post-it tape I'd ordered.

I've just finished putting together the shelves and drawers. Now I'm going to take a break and later put together the letter tray and put everything in the shelves.

I'm tired (and my sunburned arms are stinging) but I got a lot done today.

In three and a half weeks the Tour de France will zoom through our city, nearly past our house on Sunday. The downside is that from Friday evening until Sunday evening most of the inner city will be closed off for most traffic.

On Saturday morning we have "consulting hour" and we're already warning customers who want to come that it might be hard to reach us. Technically, we should be reachable when people come from the north of the city, but with 800000 up to 1000000 people expected that weekend it might be hard to get to us.

Because we don't have a very tourist-y store (except for the converter plugs) I expect it to be a quiet Saturday. I'm thinking of baking brownies to treat the customers who do visit us.

Today my father started making a bike from electrical pipe. So far we've got the wheels. The frame we first want to lay out in rope so we have the right measurements before starting to bend the pipe.

We're using 19mm PCV pipe. We have lengths of 4 metres so hopefully we can make the frame in one go. Today we first have consulting hour and after that I'll have to run my weekly errands. By the time I get back it'll be lunch time and the busy part of the will start. We'll probably won't have time to make it today. I expect that tomorrow will be a quiet day, it's going to be 30 degrees C, so we should have more than enough time to make the bike.
