Just so long as it's not Guamanian recipes!
![]() Just about every one of 'em is made from "Spam!" At the supermarket checkout counters in Guam you can find copies of "100 Best Spam Recipes." Despite its small size, Guam is rated #2 in the world for consumption of Spam, only losing out to Hawaii! I can only imagine a Christmas Dinner in Baragida... A rectangle of Spam in the middle of the plate... scored in a diamond pattern with a honey glaze... little cloves stuck in the middle of each diamond section.... ![]() Although I might laugh, that actually tastes pretty good! LOL! Stitchawl |

When my father was growing up on Guam, auto dealerships used to fill the trunks of cars with cans of spam, as an incentive to sell the car. I didn't believe him for the longest time until I went there for the first time and realized spam is like a national treasure to them lol

When CostCo first opened on Guam, I used to see people pulling up pick-up trucks and loading up with pallet loads of Spam. I can understand buying a case or two of something, but these were full pallets! About 24 cases! Thatsa lot of Spam! ![]() Stitchawl |

I couldn't believe when I was working on Hawaii, went to a reasonably fancy Sunday brunch. I thought I had walked into a bad SNL skit; there were spam and eggs, spam and potatoes, spam and ham, spam, spam and spam!

Come on,
what is wrong with spam? (I am talking about ground meat in a tin, not the email variety) I know that after the WWII it was the only meat in Britain that wasn't regulated by food stamps and people grew tired of it. Perhaps the kind of spam that was sold here (under name Luncheon Meat) when I was much younger was of better quality than your average SPAM, but I never could get enough of the stuff. Served cold with raw onion, warmed up, slightly fried in pan ... One of the best kind of canned meaty stuff you could get. And cans were quite popular here at the time. |

My all time favorite (not) was Spam Sushi. A wedge of Spam on top of a bed of rice, wrapped with a strip of seaweed. I enjoy a fried Spam sandwich. Sliced thick, fried up so it's a bit crispy on the outside, slathered in deli mustard with thinly sliced onion, and served on fresh rye bread. It's actually good, once every three or four years. ![]() Stitchawl |

But don't get me started on those... They are the ONLY sausage I can't even put near my mouth without retching. It ticks me off too because they would be so damn convenient! I love sausages. All types of sausages. Hot or cold, dry or fresh. But there is something about Vienna sausages that makes me prefer to keep them in the can. In some locales, divers like to feed the reef fish by hand. It's not a good policy but it became tradition in certain areas of Micronesia. The fish food of choice is Vienna sausage. Open a can at 60 feet down and you are instantly surrounded by multicolored coral reef fish, all battling for their turn. Just shows to go ya that reef fish have no taste. ![]() Stitchawl |

The kids here snack on a cold supermarket sausage the color of bubble gum, with the texture of cheap bologna, (i.e. smooth meat puree poured into a plastic casing,) that can actually be tied into a know without breaking. Frightful things... ![]() Stitchawl |
