Had the phone's back been made of metal or plastic, I'd have used it without a cover whatsoever. I've never dropped, scratched, or damaged a smartphone. An e-reader, with a 6+ inch screen that is not protected by something like Gorilla glass, is another matter; I always, and only, use book-style covers for those. |

The Kobo One may solve that issue with the new backing they're using. Right now I'm using a skin from DecalGirl which does seem to add a bit more friction to the surface. I can't see that working for the One because the back of the device isn't relatively smooth like the H2O and other Kobo's. edit- I fibbed a little, I broke a screen in an already broken device. But this wasn't through normal usage and I was fairly certain my actions in that case were going to cause the screen to break. I didn't care because the device was beyond salvaging at that point anyway. |

I like neoprene sleeves. I don't like to have anything on a device while I'm using it. Then when it's in my bag, I like it zipped up...instead of the open sides of most book-style covers. I was able to find an exact fit, made-for-it sleeve for my Paperwhite, but I had to settle for a generic, slightly too big one for my H2O. Maybe with the larger size Aura One I'll have better luck.

Since the Kobo One is a close size match to an iPad mini sleeve type cases should be easy to find.

For a reader, I agree with you, a book-style cover is mainly to protect the screen from scratches when transporting the device. |

I have never cared for cases on my phone or tablet. They always seemed too bulky. My current phone is a Nexus 6p, which is really slick. So I put a piece of gaffers tape on the back. It gives it some grip to hold it better, but is removable if need be.

Like the allesebook review, it shows that when the light is off the capacitive layer makes the Aura One slightly greyer than the Glo HD, but nothing like the yellow grid of the Aura 6". And there is no visible difference when the light is on, which is my standard mode anyway. I might be mistaken but I saw no reset pinhole next to the USB port, which worries me. I might need it much less often than with the earlier F/W, but I do need it once in a while, and I'd hate to have my reader blocked when on a long trip with no spare. I was disappointed that the PDF problems weren't solved: I hate the black page and the lags for heavy PDFs, while Sony and others managed PDFs much better years ago. I don't understand why Kobo didn't address the problem when they decided to go into bigger devices. I still want the Aura One though, for the rest of my books, and I'll test various PDFs. |

On the Glo HD holding the power button down restarts the device. I'm sure it's the same way on the Aura One.

That works in most cases nowadays, which is why I so rarely need my trusted paperclip for the reader. I always have at least one with me, for GPS and phones more often, but once in a very long while for my Kobo - last time on a long plane trip.

Do devices still have reset holes for paperclips? My old Sony reader did and my Aura does, but that's it. All our iOS devices have a sort of Vulcan nerve pinch that forces a reboot without needing a reset hole.
