Amazon announces: Echo - Page 26

I still can't order one from Amazon. A number of people over on the Amazon Kindle board have confessed to getting their first one from eBay, and they eventually got the invitation to purchase from Amazon, so I still check the Echo page several times a day. Maybe next week...

Still no invite but I received the Amazon Echo welcome email and a USPS tracking number for delivery tomorrow!

Edit: just received my official invite email. No glitch then - just my turn in the queue.

I received the invite email titled "Your Amazon Echo Is Ready to Purchase" this morning at 8:04 Pacific Time. Of course, since I purchased Echo yesterday afternoon, it won't let me buy again.

Ah man, I was hoping the rest of all of us finally got the invites. Sorry for those that are still waiting. I know how that feels. Not that it makes it any better.

Mine is still in shipping now. I am hoping for UPS delivery as USPS only delivers to the apartment office and I don't know when they'll clock out tomorrow. At least with UPS I know and they come to my door.

I received the invitation email on Tuesday (12/30) at 11 AM but saw it about 6 hours later and then ordered. Delivery is in two weeks, January 15.

Right now Amazon is showing that the Echo is out of stock until January 17, so I imagine there may be a delay in sending out invitations.

My Echo has arrived at a FedEx facility about six miles from my house. It's scheduled for delivery later today!

I do hope that those still waiting for an invite will have an opportunity to buy soon, although it does look like shipment will be delayed until Amazon's stock is replenished.

We have a ruling from management and the Echo only gets a thread in the Audiobook Forum -- Amazon Echo -- with all discussions kept to its use as an audiobook player.

Any discussions related to its other uses (music, news, weather, information, alarms, lists, etc) need to be discussed in the Lounge.

edit: I also started a thread in the Lounge for non-audiobook discussions -- Amazon Echo Club. It's easy to find. It's the thread with the green ball/black arrow prefix.

I haven't. It appears to be arbitrary, but I'm sure Amazon is using some rather complex algorithms for deciding who's next on the list.

Well I just finished playing with my new Echo, and I have to say it's a bit of a disappointment. I know it's a beta device, but it really needs some improvements.

The app desperately needs some equalizer settings. Some things sounded ok, but I like metal music and it sounded rather dead and hollow. I do listen to Death Metal, but it shouldn't really sound dead. It sounds bad in my kitchen, but better in my living room on a thick glass table with a stack of books a few inches away.

One of the big reasons I wanted this was because I saw it had TuneIn Radio. I couldn't play my two favorite stations: Death Metal - ROCKRADIO.COM and Metal Assault Radio. It told me that if I wanted to listen to genre stations I had to use iHeartRadio. I think it's because the word "metal" is in both stations. I was able to play 1.FM High Voltage, so I know listening to stations works. I discovered that I can use the app to play my stations, but I need to search for the station each time. I should be able to save stations within the app and I definitely should be able to use a voice command to play them.

I can't get it to play the group Eyehategod. I tried to figure out how to pronounce it phonetically, but didn't succeed. I knew this would be an issue though, so I don't count it as an Amazon problem. I tried spelling it out, but that didn't work either. It did play U2 and INXS when I asked, so they may have done something to make sure more popular groups worked.

Hubby asked what the weather outside was, so when the response was complete I asked what the weather was inside. I got the same response, but it took a few seconds - maybe it was trying to figure out what I meant by inside and just discarded that word.

The way the back button in the app works is driving me insane. When I choose something from the menu, my natural inclination is to hit the back button to go back one screen. It exits the app completely if you got to a screen directly from the menu even if you used the menu to go to a bunch of screens. It goes back one screen if you go to a screen directly from another screen sometimes, but not always. If it's not consistent, it's difficult to get used to. Since I can't use voice commands for some of my favorite music, the way the app works is important.

I sent feedback for the TuneIn radio and Eyehategod issues - hopefully they will fix TuneIn radio, and if I can request Eyehategod by voice, even better!

It won't play many of my favorite stations either, but they are german stations and Alexa don't do german.

My husband was actually able to get one to go by saying it the english pronouncation, I can't get it to work though well. We got a laugh out if it though.

Sound is really good on mine. I have like a corner between the living room and the dining room and its tall ceiling there all the way up. So it creates kind of a nice acoustic sound around it.

It took me a while to figure out certain stuff and I haven't gotten it all down. The more I use it though the more I find stuff.

Go in the app to now playing in the menu. It will there list everything you listened to in history so you can go back to it later. Or just scroll down in home. It lists everything you done or said to it. I do agree though that I wish it would show the favorite stations in tune in like it does in the tune in app.

I managed to add some very odd things to my shopping and to do list as it couldn't understand what I was saying.

For sure send them all the suggestions so they can improve things over time.
