Thanks to all who suggested 99 cent backlist historicals. One that I bought was Montana Surrender by Trana Mae Simmons. The cover art for the repubbed book in the Kobo store isn't bad only look at the cover of the actual epub file Needless to say I replaced it in Calibre with the original paperback title page.

I definitely prefer the one at Kobo, historical or not. The actual cover is rather scary; like Blossom said, the eyes!

I like appealing covers, too. It's often one of the deciding factors whether or not I pick up a book by an unfamiliar author.

Make sure you check Google Play before you buy. The 2 books I bought (Only with You by Lauren Layne / $0.99 and Dark Paradise by Angie Sandro / $1.99) were both $1 cheaper than the other stores.
