Cool Reader for Kobo

Sergey, many thanks for this wonderful alternative!

For a limit amount of time I´ve the availability over a Kobo-Glo. The standard Kobo reader engine do has it´s shortcomings. You´re Coolreader is a magnificent reader that perfectly fill in these blanks for me!

Awesome stuff: nightmode with the possibility to disable screen refresh (goodbye flash!) Also the two page implementation, hyphenation on/off, gesture control and floating punctuations (!) are top notch!!!

I had to prepare the epub´s by converting them with Calibre´s Epub -> Epub to release the lock from the embedded fonts, margins etc. Too bad the Calibre conversion generated 2 stylesheets which had to be merged (Calibre edit book option) for Coolreader to show the italics within the epubs. See screenshots below to guide people facing the same "challenge".










I´ve add some attachments for all the dutchies out there; it would be nice to implement them in future releases =)


Here some findings...

IMO, the orientation-setting in the laucher is CCW based. Is this correct as some ¨including myself - might suspect it to be CW.

When you increase the Left Margin to f.i. 30, the right side of the right page in Two Pages View Mode (Landscape) is cut off.

It would be nice - if possible - to extend the Negative view (Night mode) operation also to all Coolreader menu´s instead only during reading.

In the Styles Tab there is an example text incl. header. It would be nice to implement this header also in the Page Tab with the possibility to live view the adjustments in the header elements components.

The menu-font of Coolreader can not be adjusted. That´s a pitty for it´s quite wide and not very economical for the small ereader screen: a more narrow font gives the opportunity to display a larger size of the font with the advantage for an user to much easier tap the menus because of the greater menu-/fonthight.

Last note: when I was translating Coolreader I noticed that some translators did there job a bit too thoroughly by translating the pangram The quick brown fox... literal to their native language.

Sergey, I upgraded to fw 3.2.0 (manually) on my Kobo HD and it messed up CoolReader and everything else inside your package completely. Upon opening it it would display everything sideways (like it was turned counterclockwise once), then it wouldn't react to any button touches - menu comes up but non of the items are clickable. After uninstalling and reinstalling it several times without success I went back to firmware 3.1.1, reinstalled your 1.2.6.36 package it it went back to normal, whew!
Do you think it would be possible to get your wonderful package updated for future fw versions? Thanks a million, really enjoying your work

Did you try removing the existing pbchess installed files and folders - then doing the firmware upgrade - then installing the current pbchess package?

Might provide some useful information.

I couldn't find the exact info on what to remove if you want completely uninstall Sergey's package. Do you know which files and folders need to be deleted?

.kobo/vlasovsoft is the only folder.

Anyone else have problems with 3.2.0 on Aura HD?

That's what I thought and deleted and just to be on a safe side also deleted launcher.png from the root before reinstalling it again. I'm curious if anyone else has the same problem on 3.2.0 but I guess it's too early, not too many upgraded yet.

well, I have the same problem, but on 2.8.1 and i did exactly what you did. on mine it happened all of a sudden, I turned it off from the launcher and then, BAAAMM!!! when turn the darn thing on, up side down, or down side up, depends on your point of view. even if i turn it off from nickel, when turn back on, it shows the launcher up side down. no idea why or what the heck it's happening

2.8.1 patched. but it worked perfectly, this is what I don't understand

@babadockia: What version of CR do you have installed? Is it somehow possible, that you run an older version of CR with the possibility to enable autostart functionality?

If you activated this accidentally, the Aura HD would react exactly as you describe and flip the screen upside down.

I have the latest version. It happened all of a sudden, I didn't change anything in settings. Turn it off, turn it on and ooops, s@#$ happens. Thank you all for assistance and for the thoughts

Updated my Kobo Aura HD to 3.2.0
And was not able to get the "Launcher" working. - delete, install new, restart etc.-
Finally after installed "Night mode" it misteriously started working but got the same phenomena mentioned above - displayes everything sideways, not realy responding to touch etc. -

I tried it again, this time in more controlled way - completely removed CR from Aura HD with fw 3.1.1, upgraded to 3.2.0, carefully installed latest version of CR accordingly to Sergey's instructions, but nothing changed - it starts sideways, doesn't react to onscreen buttons. Deleted it again, went back to 3.1.1, installed CR - works perfectly again and I don't have any patches or anything else so clearly firmware 3.2.0 is the culprit.
