You realize how stupid AI can be when you are watching Monday Night Football and ask your phone for the names of the starting quarterbacks - and hear "There are no NFL games scheduled for tonight Nov 24"

Hmmm... I tried that. An AI enhanced search gave me a list of all collegiate quarterbacks by division, a list of all NFL quarterbacks sorted by team name and what seemed to be a random link to the Springboks (South African rugby team). Perhaps the search mistook a scrum-half for a quarterback?

A dumb search came up a link to the 49ers vs Panthers playing tonight, the Cowboys vs. Raiders who played last Monday and a link to a random MNF schedule. Slightly more useful.

OTOH, I am watching NHL (Golden Knights vs. Mammoths) with updates from the other games though will be switching to the Senators/Kings game. In French but doesn't take much to understand. The games in Punjabi are more fun though since one of the announcers gets very excited.

In the last couple of weeks I discovered that one of the few stores that still sold dvds and blurays in their stores up until recently has decided to stop doing so. So now the only store that still sells new movies is a bookstore chain, which has a small section of dvds and blurays, which doesn't get added to very often. It's also mostly newer B/C/D/etc movies.

I've been curating my movie collection lately. Adding my favourites I don't already have and replacing others when bluray or 4k is available.

Sure, online I can find everything I want. But I still love to just browse through rows and rows of movies. That's the reason why I buy most of my vinyl and cds in stores and vinyl markets.

A lot of thrift stores have a healthy movie section, but it's mostly dvds, whilst I now shifted my focus to bluray and 4k.

Bluray never sold as well as DVD did and streaming has basically killed both.

There are so many different streaming service, all who are slowly raising the price and some adding ads unless you pay for a premium subscription. Movies and series moving from one streaming service to another and disappearing altogether from streaming. I like to have my favourites on physical media so I can always watch them when I want to.

You see with music there is also a bit of a comeback for physical media, especially vinyl.

We moved into our new house almost a year and a half ago. Back then I changed my address on all the webshops I order from and deleted my old address.

I recently ordered some cross stitch supplies and didn't notice until it was already sent that they sent it to my old address. Even if that isn't listen on their website anymore.

I waited to see if it would end up with a delivery service where I could have it delivered at lockers or a pick up point. But unfortunately it was delivered at my old address this morning. So I emailed the new owner to see if/when I can come pick it up.

My sister had the same happen to her a couple of months ago. The webshop doesn't know where it went wrong, they can't find my old address in their system.

Iirc if you pay within paypal, e.g. it's possible that there there is a shipping address too, usually a site asks if to count one or the other..

My Paypal address is my current one. Weird thing is that I ordered something a couple of months ago and it was delivered at the right address. I’m thinking it might be that they have the manufacturer/wholesaler send it directly to their customers and they still had my old address.

Very likely. Many online retailers are really only brokers for drop shipments. And those drop shippers might well have an old address in their system. But DO complain to the retailer. They need to clean up their system to ensure that address changes pass through to the shipper.

I recently retired. I was looking forward to the first snow this year; thinking that it'd finally be my friend. Pictured myself sipping cheap coffee, staring out the window like some wise old mountain hermit while a storm raged. Raising my eyebrows at the people driving way too fast on slick roads.

No commute. No ice. No white-knuckled death drive to work. That was part of the dream.

Then today drops the first big snow of my retirement. I should be celebrating! I should be dancing in my slippers! Instead I’m looking out at my driveway, straight at my giant rented dumpster like it’s some doomed ship taking on water. I ordered it because the weather has been freakishly warm. I got tricked into thinking I should clean up my garage and fix my yard like a responsible youngish old guy.

But here’s the punchline. The dumpster charges by weight. They pick it up tomorrow. And every inch of this storm is stuffing itself into every nook and cranny of my dumpster like it’s trying to qualify for world’s heaviest frozen sponge.

Mother Nature coulda waited one more day. Just one. But nah, she clocked out early and dumped a wet blanket straight into my retirement budget.

This is why I shoulda been writing crappy pulp stories instead of being responsible. Ugh! I guess the universe really likes its jokes cold.
