The rules have been changing like crazy for the past several years, with increase in point closure time (you have to make firmer contact,) decrease in time for simultaneous touches in both foil and epee, less allowable curvature to the blade, and retraction of the rule that said 'no blade to blade contact for 30 seconds results in movement to the next period.' Thank God! If EVER there was a stupid rule, that was it! Stitchawl |

The musical Cats is playing in London for a short period of time. I saw it in 2000 and loved it and my sister still wants to go see it. We're now planning a trip to London for late February to go see it. We plan to arrive on Thursday morning and leave in the early afternoon on Saturday. That way we have a full day on Friday and most of the day on Thursday to do other fun things.
We want to stay at the same hotel we stayed at the last time we went to London, The London House Hotel, in the Bayswater area. It's in a great neighbourhood, with two tube stations close by and loads of shops. The rooms have free wifi, a mini fridge and a small safe. |

The rule change about point timings has made that particular move ineffective... Thank God! It was getting to the point where blades were becoming ultra flexible, and people were simply whipping the point onto the target rather than thrusting, making for some VERY painful fencing. This was reaching a high point just when I stopped fencing and moved to Asia. The move was 'supposed' to be a 'coupé,' but a correctly executed coupé keeps the point on target during the move, this 'flick' required the point to be moved 90° off-target to build up momentum, but the judges began calling it a legitimate continuation of action rather than giving up 'right of way.' Not pleasant, but a good way for a poor fencer to score points in competition. Now blades foil blades have stiffened up a bit again, the 'flick' doesn't work so there is no need for soft blades that break often (we've only had one blade break in our club in the past year and a half,) and fencing is back to thrusting once again... except for very tall fencers who can still place the point over an opponent's shoulder with a real coupé. I just picked up my new glasses and I'm loving them. Because of my metal allergy I always had to be careful which frame I got. I had to make sure that any part that might touch my skin wasn't metal. So I usually got an all plastic frame or, like my previous pair, one with plastic legs. This time I chose for a titanium frame. Some of my piercings are made from titanium and don't cause any problems so I thought I'd risk it.
Compared to my (partially) plastic glasses this pair is super light (it also helps that they now offer even thinner lenses). I hardly feel I'm wearing them! I do have a slight headache now. I've been wearing them in the store and the floor has a stippling pattern, which takes a bit getting used to when wearing now glasses or contact lenses. |

Just said good bye to our daughter. She's heading back to school, but not back to her school. She'll be studying for a semester abroad, and then staying on for an internship over the summer.

Just discovered that the text background stamp with "romantic script" (italic handwritten font) is taken from Pride & Prejudice.

Working tonight.
I don't expect it to busy, even during the Christmas period Thursday evening wasn't busy. But it gives me enough time to deal with the pile of items that were either not working out of the box (luckily we test 95% of the lightbulbs before selling them) or didn't last long enough. I'm sorting them by supplier, make a list of them by supplier and pack them in boxes. Not a hard job, just a bit mind-numbing. On the plus side. With tonight's two hours of extra work I've saved up enough extra hours to take a full day off with pay. For tomorrow a storm is predicted so it won't be, again, not busy. Plus the supplier that normally delivers a shipment on Friday is closed tomorrow so there's no shipment for me to deal with. So I can take the day off tomorrow. |

I'm sure my parents thought the same. At least my Mom for sure. Dad probably figured he created the wanderlust. I've struggled with the same thing with my kids doing their own thing . I wasn't prepared for my son to go into the navy, let alone the S.E.A.L.S. I Wasn't prepared for my daughter to launch on a very different career choice than she did, even though at the bottom of it, the original direction and this one aren't terribly different. (It would take a family member to sort it. )
