Getting a bit of a chuckle out of a Samsung commercial that's calling handwriting recognition "innovative".

It's just past 7.30am and I've been wide awake for an hour already. I always wake up early when going on holiday. I still have about six hours before we have to leave. I haven't packed yet, but everything is laid out on my bed, I've just emptied the SD card of my camera so I can take a lot of pictures. All that's left to do is dress and put the latest "There's No Such Thing As A Fish" podcast on my iPod.

@ the hostel in Newcastle.
The trip on the ferry was lovely, nice people and okay food. The rocking on the boat was sleep inducing for both me and my sister. We got to the hostel this morning and left our suitcases there.

First we went to the Castle Keep. Which was great except for the stairs, and there were a lot of them!

After that we got the bus to the Metrocentre shopping centre. There I bought some new tops and my sister raided the Primark 😁. We went to the Asda for food and went back to the hotel where we could go to the room. It's nice enough for am hostel. With a nice wide bunkbed, tv and "shower pod".

Right now? Playing with Firefox Nightly (which will be Firefox 35), with experimental e10s support turned on. This is similar to what Google Chrome does in having each tab and extension in a separate process, but Mozilla is using a different approach using threads instead of full processes. It's a good idea and I'm all in favor, but right now it breaks about half the extensions I have installed. I'm going to have to set up a separate profile for testing e10s where that's turned on, and use one where it isn't for production browsing.

I'm known as a cat curiosity hasn't killed yet, so yes.

This reply is sent from the new profile. The old one crashed Firefox five times in a row trying to restart after a failure.

I have backups of bookmarks and other settings, so creating a new profile was easy and fast enough to do.

This is also a new machine, with a quad core CPU and 8GB RAM, with Win7 Pro running off a solid state drive. It's "OMG! Fast!", though getting there provided interesting moments...

Pooh, Stella's still adorable.

As for what I'm doing - waiting for Chris to get home so I can feed him and head for bed. Off to the vet for Buddy's meds tomorrow, then I have to move things so people can measure windows. Again. Apparently the landlord didn't like the first bid he got, so now we're having someone else measure and bid.

Could you do me a favor? Please take as many pictures of the hostel as possible. Tell me what you thought was great about it and what needed improvement? If they have a website, that would be great!

We had a little, 4, rumbler a couple of hours ago. I woke up a little in advance doing a bit of panic attack type breathing. As far as I know, no damage here, have heard of pictures rattling on walls and things shaking around but no damage reported. Because of where this is, it's the next round that has me concerned

Rooms are okay, a bit warm. Bathroom is a pod, not that practical. No electric kettle in the room or a coffe/tea/hot water machine in the lobby. There is a guest kitchen in the basement, but it's a bit of a treck and we couldn't get in this morning. Will take some pictures.

Today we took the HOHO bus (hop on hop off) first to the Great North Musuem, then to the Baltic and then back again to the city centre. We're now at the hotel and in an hour or so will go find a nice and not to expensive place to eat.

After reading that as a thunderstorm, I switched and realized you meant earthquake type rumbler. Yikes! I hope your place stays in one place. And one piece.

I think you're pretty close to where I used to work when I visited the Newcastle office. We were in Carliol House, just opposite the law courts and police station. It closed as an office a while back so not sure what it's being used for now.

I used to walk straight down Grey Street to the quayside area to eat. Lots of good restaurants there - I had a soft spot for one called The Big Mussel . There's also a really good traditional pub around there as well called the Crown Posada (original decor and a great atmosphere) if you like that kind of thing.

Tip for getting to the top of Castle Keep from the bottom end of Grey Street; in a courtyard at the very bottom of Grey Street is a pub called Martha's Bar (I think), just behind that is an entrance to the Vermont Hotel. If you go in there, you can get their lift up to the reception level of the hotel, which happens to be at the top of Castle Keep.

Hope you have a good time. I always enjoyed visiting Newcastle.

Yeah, i guess that was kind of vague. And to be clear, the awake and panic breathing was about about hour before the event. I'm great in disasters, just don't get me spun up for one

We went to the top of the Castle Keep On Tuesday. Didn't see an entrance to a hotel, though. I believe Carliol House is empty atm.

Awake again at 5.30am, two hours before our alarm. Today, after packing and breakfast we're going to take a tour with the Tourist Information Centre. After that lunch and some last minute shopping and a visit to a supermarket. At 2.45pm we'll take the bus to the ferry.
