Waiting for the rain to stop for a little bit so I can walk Luca. It turns out that although she loves to play with the waterhose she doesn't like the wet. On Friday afternoon I walked her while it was drizzling and after she did what she needed to do she turned around to head home. During the evening walk it was dry but the grass was wet and again she wanted to go home as soon as she'd done what was needed.

I went for a small walk with Norton this morning. The official reason for cutting it short was the heat, but the real reason was that I couldn't get enough volume from my ear buds to hear the book I was listening to on my iPod. Had the volume been high enough, I probably wouldn't have noticed the heat.

There are Apps that can be added to IOS that dramatically bump up volume, give more control over treble and bass, and even create more of a dynamic surround sound. I was having a lot of difficulties hearing many of my audio books before I adds these to my iPhone. It did take some experimentation to find the one the worked best for 'my' hearing, but once I found it, all worked well. I've even added one to my desktop computer. Instead of setting the volume at '9,' I can keep it down at '4' and still hear more clearly.

My main problem is a high frequency hearing loss. Have you got any suggestions as to which apps I could start with? I'd never heard of apps to increase the volume, but I do know that right out of the box, the speakers on my grandson's first generation Kindle Fire blow my iPad Air out of the water.

Even so, while apps might help the iPad they won't help the iPod Nano. Nanos don't do apps.

As far as I can tell (remember this is from someone who needs two LARGE hearing aids to hear commercial jets taking off...) the best of the bunch is
http://www.fxsound.com/mp3-accessori...cessories.html

I have this loaded on my Windows7, iPhone5, iPad, and iPad Mini. Makes all the difference in the word for me.

I got really excited about this, as I have trouble hearing my audiobooks when I am mowing the lawn particularly. Unfortunately, it won't work with Audible downloads, as it needs to be MP3 or AAC format. Ahah, methinks, I can convert the Audible file to MP3 via iTunes. Nope, it won't convert DRM protected files, which applies to Audible. So I'm still stuck...

Pottering about.

Before 9am I was already up, showered, fed the fish, walked the dog, fed the dog, did the shopping and finished vacuuming. So a nice and relaxed day.

The weather was great, I would have gone cycling if it wasn't so windy. So instead I finished my book ("The Demonologist" by Andrew Pyper), played Children of the Nile and caught up on Project Life. Tonight I think I'm going to watch some tv, though I'm not sure if I'm in the mood for a movie or a tv series.

WT Sharpe and orlok, you guys might want to look into small, battery operated headphone amplifiers. I don't use one, myself, but I have friends who do. I do have a nice pair of noise canceling headphones (mine are Able Planet brand) which do a great job reducing the need for amplification in some situations.

If I find some that work with Bluetooth earbuds I'll consider it.

I'm hoping that by the time I'm eligible for another pair of hearing aids that I'll be able to get a pair with Bluetooth capabilities built right in. A couple of companies are looking into that very thing even now.

Over the ear, or in-ear earbuds with lots of foam cushion, noise-cancelling headphones can really improve listening - combination of eliminating background noise and focusing the playback directly into your ear canal.

Never heard of such a beast. I'll have a look into it, thanks.

The usual routine when I pet sit has started. When I get back home to work on Tuesday through Saturday I'm always early so I can cool down from the cycle trip. Lexie always awaits me and starts sniffing me. Because I smell of another pet, Luca in this case, she takes it upon her self to mark me with her scent again. When I get back to my friends' place I get sniffed by dog Luca who is aghast that I stink of cat.

Boy, you must get a lot of animal snugglies, if they BOTH want to re-mark you as their own.

Yes, Lexie even followed me into the story today and she hardly ever goes there.

Luca has been a lot more cuddly this year than previous years. When I'm on my notebook for a long time (according to her) she tries, and occasionally succeeds, to climb up into my lap. Typing is a bit awkward when you've got a Belgian Sheppard trying to curl up on your lap!
