Just booked my next vacation.
In September my sister and I will go to Newcastle by boat. It's been a while since I've been to the UK and I need my fix!

Hopefully the boat trip will be smoother than the first time we took the ferry from Calais to Dover (when my parents brought me to uni). There was a storm with high waves. It took hours before the boat was allowed into the harbour of Dover. I don't get seasick quickly, but even the boat crew was greenish.

I just read on Facebook that author Deborah Harkness will be visiting my local bookstore on Friday 5 September! I've recently discovered her All Hallows Trilogy and loved the first two books. One of the few downsides of ebooks it they can't be signed. However, I did buy a copy of the first book for my sister for her birthday so I might borrow her copy and get it signed for her.

Have you discovered the Rachel Morgan series by Kim Harrison? (The setting is in "The Hollows" so your comment made me think about it.) I thought they were lots of fun. The 12th and final book is coming out next month. They're light weight, somewhat akin to the Sookie Stackhouse series (which isn't very much like the TV series).

Ack this is going to be the last book? I love that series. She did a much better job of making it interesting are fun as the series went on then the Sookie Stackhouse series.

I agree! Sookie was going downhill; this series (so far) seems to be ending on an Up!

(Though I still had to find out what happened to the people in the Sookie world.)

I've read most of Sookie Stackhouse, but got burned out by reading them too fast. I've tried the first of the The Hollows but couldn't get into it and put it aside. I might give it another try when I feel I'm in the mood for something light.

Wasting my life playing the new game "2048."
If you value your time, do NOT look at this site...
(My wife has been playing for the past six hours without a break...)

I don't hate 'em. I just can't keep them in the proper order. It's Dyscalculia. Same as a Dyslexic with letters, but for me it's with numbers. I can say 1,2,3,4,5, but if I try to write them, they come out mixed up. (Well, actually, I can do 1,2,3,4,5, but that's about it. If I try to write a telephone number, it usually takes me 2 or 3 tries. I have no difficulty reading numbers and saying them. It's only when I try to get them from my brain onto paper.)

But in this game, I don't have to get numbers from my brain through my arm to a pencil onto paper and keep them in order. I just move the up, down, left, and right arrow keys! No problemo!

Settled in at my friends' place.

They left yesterday morning for France for three weeks. I got here around noon, did some shopping, walked the dog and waited for my father to bring my stuff. I can remember the first time I went housesitting, for my aunt and uncle, and all the stuff I needed fitted into a big backpack and my bicycle bags. Now I have one weekend bag for my clothes and toiletries, one box filled with my towels and electronics, one box partially filled with my scrapbooking stuff, my notebook backpack, my quilt and my pillow. LOL.

Today is a rainy day, luckily it was quiet in the store and managed to get off half an hour early so I made it back reasonably dry. There's a dry spell now, so I'll walk Luca a bit early and after that start making my pasta salad for tomorrow's dinner.

With 2-4 days of non-stop rain coming up, I dashed out & mowed the lawn ... lest it become a jungle by next Friday! A few sprinkles tried to frighten me off .... then I heard mowers firing up all around the neighborhood ..

After a lazy rainy Saturday - just returned from my after dinner walk in the rain .... mushrooms/toadstools popping [literally] up everywhere ... even a few fairy circles ....

Unwinding after a long day driving in bad traffic. On the plus side, the weather was beautiful.

Polishing my guitar, oiling the fretboard, and changing the strings, getting ready to go and play some music!
