Re-wrapping my arm with an Ace bandage. I ruptured the bicep on my sword arm...
I guess it's true; when an unstoppable force meets an immoveable object, something's gotta give! I'll be out of combat for the next six weeks. I'm looking at this as God's way of telling me to spend some time concentrating on my foot-work and correcting my form instead of playing Jack Sparrow.

No... just immortal. I still break often. I just don't spend a lot of time bitching and moaning about it. Once or twice, to get it off my chest, then I look for the positive side of it all. In this case, it's the sorely needed effort put into the most mind-numbing, blindingly boring side of the sport... footwork and form. Unfortunately, footwork really is critical, but I've been relying upon good strategy and fast reflexes (the fun stuff) to overcome my really rotten footwork. Not no mo.... And also on the bright side, I won't need to carry in all my weapons (2-3 foils, 2-3 epees, and two masks,) when I go to the fencing salle tomorrow. They really do get heavy. I leave my fencing shoes at the club, so all I'll need to bring are my breeches and knee socks, and a dry shirt to change in to when I'm done! That, and a towel to sop up my tears as I watch everyone else playing and having fun....

No way. Improvise? Adapt? Overcome? Sure!

In fact, this morning I just renewed my membership status with the United States Fencing Association- Competitive status.

No, not quit, just ease up some. Your skiing life at least should have told you that. ... lay off the black diamonds for a bit and spend some time chilling on the green!

Although I worked out hard today, I didn't use my arm at all. I just concentrated on footwork combinations for two hours. No strain on my arm muscles at all. I didn't even hold a weapon while I was doing mobility drills. Just let my arm dangle as I moved up and down the piste. I'll do this for the next 6-8 weeks while my arm heals. Next week I'll probably add in some right-handed experimenting. It will be like learning an entirely new sport!

Ok, so this may sound trivial, but! I just knelt! !!!!!!!!! For the first time in 4 years! That's so huge! To get back to my 2 favored sports, to have that level of mobility and actually do it, omg! This is almost break out the beer and balloons time!

The past few days I've been updating my goodreads read list. I've been a member for a while, but have never really done anything with the account. Today I discovered I can use my iPad to scan barcodes and import books into my read list via that route. Pretty neat. The bad news is that, being 64 years old, many of my books were purchased prior to the use of barcodes, and others use a barcode format not recognized by goodreads. But for all the newer paperbacks and hardcover books I've purchased in the last few years, it works like a charm.

Then there's also the issue of all the books I've given away, thrown out, or borrowed from libraries. There's no way I'll ever have a list that comes anything close to reflecting all the books I've ever read.

If we ever get those bookshelves built that my wife and I both have been talking about for some time, I'll open the containers into which I've stored a mess of other books and have even more titles to add to the list.

On Thursday I'm going house/dog/fish sitting for almost three weeks. I'm now preparing by making lists; for the supermarket tomorrow, Thursday and Friday, for the visit to Ikea and a list for the miscellaneous stuff I still have to get.
