Tapatalking. The PC and the Mac had to be shut down because a thunderstorm has arrived in our area. We're now under a Flood Warning until 6:30 PM. Sure am glad we don't have to go anywhere.

Today I made three chicken pot pies. I put two in the freezer and we had the third for supper with rice. I only intended to make two, but got carried away with the ingredients. It's a good thing I bought some extra pie shells. After putting them in the oven, I modified my recipe to cut down on the ingredients so as to make only two pies. It's hardly an exact science the way I'm doing it, but perhaps the note I added at the end is the best modification I made to that recipe all day: "Any excess pie filling is soup. Add crackers and eat."

Working on my closet.

Last week a shelf collapsed. (Why, yes, there were books on it.) It's one of those white open wire DIY shelves. The clips holding it to the wall all broke and it fell at an angle. I put it up more than 20 years ago (and it probably was overloaded) so I'm not upset.

Except I have to empty out the closet to get access to the broken clips (done) and remove the broken clips (mostly done). Next step will probably be this weekend, when I check whether I can just replace the old clips with new ones, or whether I'll need to use some sort of wall anchors ... and how they might change the position of the shelf, which really needs to link up with a shelf that didn't collapse.

Years ago, when I was working at a university, our department moved into a new 'modern' building - in the offices, instead of book cases, we found very long shelves lying on clips that anchored into wall strips - we were assured that these shelves were strong enough to hold books - so I loaded my library onto the shelves, being careful to balance the weight along each shelf. Then, with a slow grinding noise, the wall strips pulled away from the wall - the idiotic contractor installation crew had neglected to fasten the strips to the wall studs, and didn't even use any type of wall anchor - just used long screws ....

In the house I built in Vermont, I put up an L-shaped bookcase as a visual blocker to a doorway, using three old railroad ties (sleepers?) as the supports and 2"x14" boards slotted into the ties. Because of the width of the boards I was able to use both sides for a double shelf. The ties were about 10"x10" and went floor to ceiling, pressed in tightly. Everything was large, heavy, and tight, so no bolts or screws were required... or so I thought. I came home one day about 6 months later to discover that the entire unit had rotated around the corner of the 'L,' pushed the ceiling up enough for the end ties to move and fall over, and the entire structure (and part of the ceiling plus about 300 hardcover books) laying on the living room floor.

Am I missing something here? I got this ad in an email yesterday. Can you believe these savings? These items were all regularly priced, but if you act now, you can get them for that same regular price.

Wearing contact lenses for the first time in almost two months. And it's bliss. I first couldn't wear them because the anti-biotic gel I got for my eyelid infection damages contacts and after that didn't work and I was advised to clean my eye twice a day with diluted Zwitsal shampoo my doctor said it would be better if I didn't wear my contacts.

However, with the warm and humid weather the areas where my glasses rested on (nose, ears) got irritated and last night I saw that both nose pads are cracked and need to be replaced.

I did get an infection last week, but it wasn't as bad as previous ones so I'll risk wearing contacts.

Fixing Hamburger Helper (Taco flavor) for supper. They don't give you nearly enough chips, but we have a bag of taco chips on hand. I wanted to add a can of tomato cubes but it seems the only thing we have on hand is Ro-Tel diced tomatoes with lime juice and cilantro. It's delicious, but it's hot, and my wife doesn't do hot, so I'm fixing them on the side for me and Mobile Beastdom. With a bit of shredded cheese added the concoction should be good enough for company. My wife is fixing a big pot of succotash, so our stomachs should be good and happy in about an hour.

What I was doing just now was watching ABC News with Diane Sawyer, but she just announced that after the break they would be focusing on speculation that Rosie O'Donnell may be returning to The View. In other words, the news is over now and I can focus on other things.
