Hmmm they would probably sell well in the US as planters for decks and the like.

What a great idea for the tires and, ProfCrash, I think the planter idea would sell well here, too.

Our deck faces west and gets the full blast of the setting sun in the summer, with temps easily topping 100 F in late afternoon. Stella cat (our long-haired part Maine Coon cat) dozes between the thermal drapes and the sliding glass doors - until she overheats. She's smart enough to move in front of the floor fan in the kitchen & flop onto the cool linoleum floor and cool down. Then she returns to her "sun room" to soak up more rays. She really loves heat!

[All winter she could be found stretched out next to our oil filled space heaters, basting herself - we called her the rotisserie cat - she would gradually roll over and evenly toast all sides of her.]

Maybe it's a "northeast thing," but we have plenty of used tires being used for planters. Typically, at least as far as I've seen up here, you cut wedges out of one sidewall, then you turn the tire inside out. The wedges wind up pointing out, like a crown, and the tread is on the inside. locate it (or, more usually, them) along a driveway, fill with potter's soil, and plant!

I always thought of that as 'Trailer Life Lawn Art.' Very common to see all over the US, along with upended bath tubs with a statue of the Virgin Mary inside. It's one of the few times I actually prefer garbage cans...

Made a pot roast for me & my honey. It's for supper, but I sneaked a plate out and it's ummm ummm good!

Earlier today I was trimming the crepe myrtles while listening to The Man Who Was Thursday: A Nightmare by G. K. Chesterton on my iPod.

I just discovered Lexie has found a new spot to sleep: on my desk on a couple of packets of thickers (thick foam stickers).

She was trying to make me feel sorry for her; yesterday I washed all of her blankets, pillows and pillowcases I have around my bedroom. This because she was making clear that they were all dirty (she hates "dirty" things to sleep on). However, she doesn't like freshly cleaned blanket/pillow/pillowcases either. So she felt "forced" to lie on my thickers, because that was, like, the only soft spot in my whole room . When I went to watch tv in bed she came to lie next to me for a couple of hours.

For the next couple of days she'll act like this, then she'll find a spot on one of the washed things. Maybe she doesn't like the smell of the detergent or fabric softener.

It's more like the washed things don't smell like her anymore - until she sleeps on them - a vicious circle.

When I wash the towels/blankets, etc. my 3 cats play 'stand off' -- waiting for one of them to take the plunge and sleep on them - once they have the proper 'cat smell' then all 3 compete to mark them (again) with their own scent .... I usually solve the problem by grabbing the nearest cat and plunking them down on the 'new' towel and rub them on it . I get tired of those staring remorseful eyes accusing me of taking away their old towels.

LOL.

The biggest problem is that when Lexie has slept on a blanket/pillow for a couple of days she thinks it's dirty and doesn't want to sleep on it anymore, but when you wash it it's also not good . Nikita was so much easier. She had just one spot in my bedroom; an old shoebox with one of my old sweaters. She hated it when it was washed (the dirtier the better for her), but it I put on the sweater for a couple of hours and it smelled like me it was good for her.
