Yes, except I would have liked it to be the story title that was clickable.

Ok this might be a bit complicated, but you should be fine if you follow these steps exactly:

Preferences->Add your own columns->+ (Create a custom column)

Lookup name: linkedtitle

Column heading: "Title​" (copy and paste the content between the quotation marks _exactly_, there's a hidden invisible character at the end that allows you to create a Calibre column with the name "Title". If this doesn't work for some reason open this page, do ctrl+a and then ctrl+c and paste it)

Column type: Column built from other columns

Template: (Simply copy and paste this entirely, including linebreaks and spaces -- Calibre can deal with that)

Leave the not mentioned settings at their default values. Press ok, then uncheck the new column (at the very bottom) and press apply.

Preferences->Look and Feel->Book Details

Move the custom title column from the bottom (the one with an icon in front of it) just below the original title column (the one without an icon) with the up-arrow button at the right side of the window. Then uncheck the original title column and press apply.

This seems to do the trick for me and should potentially also work for other books using the "url:" syntax in the identifiers column. For books not downloaded with FFDL it should simply display a non-linked version of the title.

I don't suppose there is a guide as for how I do the new email feature?

It was mentioned and shortly discussed a few pages back, but as of yet there's no real guide, no. To shortly sum it up: You preferably want to create a new e-mail account with Gmail (that's what I did), enable access for less secure apps in the account settings. Then update your e-mail in the fanfiction accounts you own to the newly created e-mail, and of course enable story alerts for stories which you want to keep up-to-date. Then in the FFDL settings you want to enter the following in the "Email Settings" tab:

IMAP Server Name: imap.googlemail.com
IMAP User Name: <your username>@gmail.com
IMAP User Password: <your password>

and press ok. If you do a bit of googling (regarding the less secure access in the Google account settings especially) it should be ok. But I'll see about creating a slightly more detailed guide at a later date.

Then, as soon as there are updates for a story, the fanfiction site it is hosted on should sent out an e-mail, which FFDL will recognize if you choose "Get Story URLs to Download from Email" from the dropdown menu.

is there a way to get chapter updates this way or does it only do new stories at this point?

It's specifically for getting chapter updates. You'll need to enable story alerts for your chosen fanfiction sites and FFDL will scrape received emails for story URLs and then check them.
