Yes, I believe I have found my next mower. Right now the old gasoline push mower is still starting with one-pull and running like a champ, but is not the best time to shop around not when you don't need to buy? Perhaps sometime between now and this time next year, the price will do an off-season drop.

This is the one that is screaming my name, and that Amazon Prime price is $50 cheaper than Friskars's own webpage is asking. I am having real difficulty keeping my finger off that "Buy" button!

And think of the money I'd save on gas!

Tell me, is maintenance much of an issue? I notice the Friskers web page says not to use the garden hose because for cleaning because of the potential for rust. Do you need to adjust the blades often? How difficult is it to keep the blades sharp?
I'm just now going through the backlog in this thread. I don't know if you've gotten this lawn mower yet, but I bought this model in August of 2012. I loved it then, and love it now. If you're used to power mower performance, this will be "okay," but if you've used plain old push mowers, this one is a dream! I do sometime let my grass get too high, especially before the first mowing. Going back over it a few times will fix it. It does have a problem with stalks (I have some hawkweed, some wild garlic, etc.), but I make a quick pass with a grass whip the next day and it's done.

I have done zero maintenance since buying it. Never had to clean anything, adjust anything, etc. My old conventional push mower would get grass binding up around the wheels -- not this one. Front discharge is no problem -- if anything, it works like a mulching mower, chopping the clippings finer.

And I don't need to keep a can of gas in the garage.

Hope you like it as much as I do. (I reviewed it -- my reviews are under the name "Headphone Pilot" at Amazon.)

It took a bit of digging to see your Amazon review; it's currently on page 56 of 78. Good review, but I have a question. One article I read said that the mower is good is you have a lot of straight paths to cut. I need to mow around a lot of curves. How is it with them?

I would guess this model would handle curves better than the older model I have - the front set wheels should give you greater maneuverability.

Should I ever need to replace my current model (earthquake, falling tree - not wear), I'd get the model you're looking at.

My front yard has several curves and the mower has no trouble getting around them -- certainly no worse than a typical rotary power mower.

One disadvantage of the curves is that as a "push mower" it works best when you've got a good "head of steam" going -- it is a little less effective when I slow down to maneuver around. I don't find it to be a serious drawback.

Hoping the rain will be gone this afternoon. I have to cycle over to a supplier to pick something up for a customer who needs that item TONIGHT and I hate cycling in the rain.

It was dry, and on the way back even sunny! It was very windy, though. But luckily I had the wind in my back on the way back home. An extra incentive to go was that the stuff I ordered at the craft store, next door to our supplier, had come in. So I picked that up as well.

I'm tired now (9pm), I woke up at 4.30am and just couldn't get back to sleep. So I'm now going to make a cup of tea and curl up in bed with my Kobo and maybe Kevin McCloud (I'm currently seriously addicted to Grand Designs).

Good luck on those. I think the stress of finals is something that is always remembered, no matter how many years ago they were. I still remember all mine and am so thankful I don't have to do those again.

I'm trying to get some yard stuff done and the filter changed before the 100+F temps hit today, although I'm having a break with my morning coffee and it is already 80F. Maybe, I should get out to get the errands done in town before the really hot temps move in.
