I have a gadget addiction as well as a ebook/audiobook buying addiction, but I resisted. Got the note about the $39 Fire and REMINDED myself that I already have a Fire HDX. I think I'm still just adjusting to fewer gadgets. I traded in 2 of my kindle keyboards and a 6" button basic and I am kindof missing them. I am a little disappointed in my Voyage, but I'll get over it. I keep wanting it to do some things that the Kindle Keyboard does and it doesn't do it! I still have another Kindle Keyboard and a Nook Glo and HD+.
I'm finally getting around to read some of those Baen bundled toss-in books. One was ho hum, but one was surprisingly good (Dragon's Eye by Christopher Stasheff), so looking forward to more. I haven't bought any Baen Bundles since November because I have this huge backlog of them. |

I had to resist the cheap Fire for exactly the same reason! It's a wonderful price, but I don't need it.

I only add a freebie to my TBR if I would have bought it as a discounted non-freebie.

I've reached the point where I won't take a freebie unless I would have bought it anyway and intend to read it in the near future. No more freebies just because they are free.

I also gave up on freebies long ago. I purged my library at Amazon, which was an extremely slow process since it had to be done one. book. at. a. time. and learned my lesson. The cost of free is too high.

I count freebies as TBR, since I own them and haven't read them. On the other hand, I'm not too fussed about the overall total of my TBR (around 1200), rather just the movement up and down. I accept that I will never read some of the books I own. Some of them, I don't really want to read, but haven't got to the point of definitely eliminating. Some I might have read if I ever ran out of everything else to read, which used to happen back when I was broke and paper was the only option, but isn't likely to happen now.
Even if I try to filter down to a Real TBR of Books I Actually Want to Read, I always find there are too many edge cases. So, yes, I mainly avoid freebies, too, now. |

I count freebies in my TBR pile too, but I only get them if I want to read them and not just because they're free
![]() My TBR has obviously increased now that I've spent all my mountain of no-rush credits, but it's at a very manageable level of 259 (I normally go through about 150 to 200 a year) so I'm feeling quite virtuous ![]() |

Year: TBR (unadjusted TBR) 2010: 839 (417) 2011: 802 (380) 2012: 729 (307) 2013: 800 (378) 2014: 750 2015: 787 In 2013 I moved to using calibre, and got a good measure of my TBR for the first time - finding that I had far more than I had previously thought. Looking at the figures above (which I haven't done before) I will be immensely pleased if I make it down below 729 by the end of this year. |

The figure of 250 is what we call pie in the sky at the moment, though. Mixing my metaphors, what with OverDrive, public domain, and paper books, even when I'm getting through books at a pretty good clip, my TBR is like a glacier in pre-global warming days. There's very little melt. At least the ice age of increasing bulk has passed. |

I don't count freebies in my TBR list. They are kept in a separate Calibre library. I still pick up freebies but wait for recommendations before reading. Some may become a sleeper hit in the future.
Actually, I don't really have a TBR list. Just a bought and read list. |

![]() ![]() ![]() I do keep my freebees, but I am much more selective and am purging my Amazon library of them after downloading. B&N lets you archive such things, but not so Amazon, so in order to make my library tolerable for multiple family members, I have to take most freebees down. I put them into a Freebees library though and occasionally select something from them. Most of my freebees are backlist of dead authors, but some newbie authors as well. FORTUNATELY, if you previously purchased a book that you have deleted and then discover the audiobook is now available for $1.99, you can provide the order information to customer service and they will revive your deletion. But, I do not count freebees in my TBR - just things I paid for. |
