It's a completely different weapon... It would be like a bench-rest shooter trying to compete in sporting clays, or a golfer trying to play polo. Usually, sabre fencers ONLY fence sabre. Foil and epee fencers often may fence both of these, but there aren't very many of us who fence all three weapons. Foil and epee both use only the point thrust for valid touches although the target area is different. Sabre has a point for thrusting, as well as a full front edge and a 1/3 back edge for cutting. It's a VERY different fighting style.

I've fenced all three and maybe because I learned them more or less simultaneously it didn't occur to me that you would have such difficulty with a sparring partner. I'm still grappling with the style differences that I think I shared before. Maybe with this next replacement I can get back to something!

I just subscribed to a monthly Project Life kit at my local store. They do not only come with items but also with extra information (e.g. what photo printers are best or how to store your stuff) and videos.
I'm also planning my first bicycle ride of the year for Monday, if the weather is as good as the now predict it to be. Nothing exciting, just my normal round with a reading break at my favourite spot looking out over the river. |

Just came in from planting some strawberries and a raspberry shortcake bush; I can't wait for more berries.

On Tuesday it's a month since I've gone to the doctor for my eyelids, which kept swelling every couple of weeks. I got a antibiotics gel for a bacterial infection and was told that if it wasn't cured in 4 weeks I had to come back. My right eye is doing fine. But my left eye keeps swelling, I follow the instructions (use the gel until 2 days after the symptoms go away) but a week or so later my eyelid gets irritated again.
Tomorrow I'm going to make the follow up appointment, hopefully the next thing will work since I can't wear my contact lenses when using the gel and with the warm weather my glasses are annoying. |

I just got back from the doctor. This time I went to my own doctor instead of the one in training that helped me last time.
I expected to get a heavier dose of antibiotics but instead she prescribed Zwitsal baby shampoo! I have to put a bit on a cotton swab and clean the rims of my eyes with it twice a day. I got the feeling she was a bit annoyed that the doctor in training started with antibiotics instead of trying Zwitsal first. If it hasn't got an effect in six to eight weeks I have to get a referral to an eye specialist. However, she advised against wearing contacts until the infection is gone. With is a bit of a shame since with the 30C weather predicted for the weekend contacts are so more practical than glasses that keep sliding down my nose. |

If you glasses are sliding down your nose you should get them refit.

I currently have fourteen earrings and only the hairdresser has problems with them. I usually take the top ones out or tape the off when getting my hair cut. In all except the two normal ones I wear small rings that easily come off when they are snagged but I only ever lost two of them. I used to have one more but that one regularly got irritated, I think it was because it was pierced (at a jewellery store, not at a piercing shop) up against, but not through, the cartilage and because of that rubbed up against the cartilage which then got irritated.
I would never get a facial piercing; a nose piercing I don't find hygienic, especially since I suffer from hayfever and have the occasional nose bleed, a lip or tongue piercing is bad for your teeth and an eyebrow piercing just doesn't work with glasses IMHO. |
