I think AI is the one of the most misunderstood high tech concepts today. There is AI theory and a small bit of reality, and then there is the near total BS presented in Hollywood movies, books, and discussed by SciFi folks who have never grown up enough to get their faces out of comic books. I'm way more concerned about so-called AI being a major fail in our daily lives due to lackluster performance and poor programming than I am about a wooden puppet with someone's hand up its backside coming to life via AI and going on a killing spree. The realistic threat is manipulation of AI servers by criminals, terrorists, and countries, not that somewhat intelligent humans will create such a smart AI that it takes over the world. Although I can see AI screwing up the world through its errors if we rely too much on it. But AI gaining consciousness, not a worry IMO.

Amazon Prime Day coming July 15-16 this summer. Amazon is calling it "a two-day parade of epic deals."

Hopefully there will be some good sales on stuff we want.

LOL! Rubbermaid, the leaky ripoff of Tupperware. I don't mind their storage closet containers, although the lids rarely fit very well, but I avoid their food storage containers, especially their pitchers, else I wind up cleaning up a lot of messes! You definitely need to hire a maid to clean up the spills if you use Rubbermaid items! Not sure how they stay in business. Tupperware is usually really good, but you can't buy it at stores. It is hard to find unless your elderly aunt kicks off and leaves you some or you go to yard sales and flea markets. Never understood why they don't sell their stuff in stores. I assume because it is a pyramid scheme much like Amway, but I don't know for sure.

Amazon has the Fire TV Recast, over-the-air DVR, 500 GB, 75 hours on sale for $129.99, a $100 savings.

Prime Day(s) is coming in two weeks, so probably some good deals then too.

Maybe this should be in the Vent and Rant tread, but what ever happened to Bezo's next day Prime shipping?

I pre-ordered (I almost NEVER pre-order) a Echo Show5 with a promise of a 26 June release, well it wasn't released until the 28th and not shipped until the 29th. AND THEN THEY SHIPPED IT UPS GROUND!!!! ARRGH!!!! In Hawaii it means it goes by truck from Kentucky to California, then gets put on a plane (at least it's not a boat) to Hawaii. AND IT TAKES TEN DAYS!!!

Breathe Wodin.... Ahh that's better, so now I won't be getting my Show5 until July 8. Needless to say, next day shipping is fake news.

I seems like the only people who consistently get 1-day and same-day shipping are those who live next to well stocked Amazon distribution warehouses. I live in a large metro with two Amazon distribution warehouses, so I consistently get my orders on time and usually within a day of ordering, unless the item has to come from out of state. If Hawaii doesn't have Amazon distribution warehouses, then I doubt you would get such fast shipping. I think Amazon should make that clear, or more clear, to those of you who are far away from the CONUSA warehouse distribution chain.

For the past month or so (since a few days prior to the next day announcement) I have been getting one or two day shipping. It's been amazing as both UPS and FEDEX, as well as USPS routinely add a day to standard shipping times for Hawaii and Alaska, and advertise as such.

So what happened with the Show5? It almost seems like they weren't really ready to ship on time and are blaming it on UPS.

I just signed up for another free trial of Prime. If I order a Show 5 within the next 18 hours, I'll get it on Sat. That's 4-day shipping. So much for their vaunted 2-day shipping.

I looked it up on Amazon and says if I order in the next 16 hours I will get it Friday, so 3 days. I guess it all depends on where you live in relation to where they are warehoused.

I checked the Show 5, and it says Friday for me. It does not say "Next day" or "two day" on checkout; it says "Free Prime Delivery"

I wouldn't expect anything on Thursday, since it is a federal holiday.

LOL, I totally left July 4th out of the equation. These days holidays seem more commercialized and/or politicized than patriotic. A friend of mine says "Memorial Day" should be renamed to "Mattress Sale Day"! So figuring in the the July 4th holiday does indeed bring it down to a 2-day delivery schedule in my area. I have found that 2-day deliveries often get delivered in 1 day if you place the order early enough in the day.

Well, I'll be gobsmacked, 'twould seem I got all vent-n-rant over a tempest inna teapot. I checked my Amazon orders a few minutes ago and to my delight I found my Show5 is out for delivery! A full five days earlier that they said yesterday. Woo Hoo!

Now I just gotta figger out which Echo I wanna retire (or move to the bathroom). It's gonna be a hassle getting everything renamed correctly.

It is the 4th, the holiday, and Amazon/USPS just delivered two items which I specified for slow shipping.
