Nobody suggested burning Dan Brown, as far as I remember. He can write as many bad books as he likes, and people can read them. It doesn't change the fact that they are badly written and full of incorrect facts and crazy theories.
Are you saying that the Catholic Church has actively tried to discredit him? I have no idea if that's true, but it would be rather silly of them to give him that much free publicity. ![]() |

This is what persuaded me to read all his books. Just to see why the Catholic Church banned his books here ;-)

The Last Cato - The Day Time was Hacked
Give you two books:
The Last Cato by Matilde Asensi http://www.amazon.com/Last-Cato-Nove.../dp/0060828587 and The Day Time was Hacked by Carel Mackenbach http://www.amazon.com/Day-Time-was-H.../dp/B00375LIF6 Both give you a different look at the Vatican, while not pivoting around a secret which is too far-fetched to be convincing. |

Only just picked up this thread, sorry, but Dan Brown ?
Perlease....... The problem for me - and that is not how I'd describe it - with his books, having been forced to read the first by my son, is how I could ever bring myself to ever pick up another of his tomes. Glad to say I'm managing to stay in the same state of mind................ ![]() And the offspring has also gorn of him as well, so all's more or less right with the world. ![]() |

Dan Brown's books may not be among the greatest literature ever written, but they're fun.

I liked Folsom's Day after Tomorrow also.
Another title that just came to mind is Kolymsky Heights by Lionel Davidson. (who sadly is now deceased) You might also try David Lindsey's, Requiem for a Glass Heart & An Absence of Light both of these titles were page turners for me Last edited by beespeckled; 03-15-2011 at 04:37 AM. Yup, Wyndslash, I was more of an offspring when I read my 2 + 1/3rd ! Just grewed out of 'em, probably..................
And I think, Andrew, that I agree with the first, but then realised I found them far too long, too repetitive, and, really, not a lot of fun. |

'ere, 'ang on
![]() I've just realised I've answered the right thread about the wrong author !!! But some of it more or less fits both, actually, for me anyway. The above post is a reply "as if" we were talking about Wilbur Smith (another thread). But, for Dan Brown, add "over-complicated" and possibly, although maybe a little cruelly, "trite", to the second para, and forget the first...... And I only just got through the Da Vinci, nothing else available on a long train journey - no longer a problem, thanks to my embracing new technology ! My brain 'urts......time for cucumber slices and a darkened room.......... ![]() Last edited by carpetmojo; 03-15-2011 at 04:17 PM. Reason: Wrong author again - overwork & old age ! |

Dan Brown's inaccuracies are not just religious but geographical and historical....the bloke puts as much research into his books than I do to a McD's menu at 2am in the morning, blind drunk and starving!
He can't be arsed to get basic facts right, and this is even before I get bogged down by his terrible writing style....and the saddest thing is personally I am not entertained by his books and they become a slog to get close to finishing. |
