Nice! Can choose English language in start up. I can read my power settings now and date settings.

Dynamism has updated pricing for the Viliv X70 models. The entry-level model with 16GB SSD (X70 EX Express) is $599. Moving up to 32GB SSD (X70 EX Premium) ups the cost to $729 and the top model with built-in 3G (X70 EX 3G) is $879.

Hmm... I wonder when the X70 EX Premium is available for pre-order.

FIRMWARE upgrade instructions?

I am looking for confirmation that the upgrade instructions are as follows.

1. Get the upgrade tool.
2. copy the new firmware to the root of the SD card.
3. then run through the tool?

Is that it?

BTW: From my Asus eeePC and several posts in different Netbook forums I've had very good results with Transcend SD and SDHC cards. They are very reliable, fast and compatible and not too pricey.
I did the Wikipedia thing after I posted, so now I know better -- I had remembered having difficulty in my first Asus EEE with SDHC cards, and I wanted to know why (there was some sort of SD reader firmware kerfuffle with the original EEE.) Thanks for the heads up, too, though. And I'll look for a Transcend card -- if I can find one here in Thailand... I know I can find Kingston.

Well, I know I can find cards with the Kingston label. This is Thailand after all, so nothing is certain.

I don't think so. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong...

1. Download the rar file, and uncompress.
2. Copy the SmartQ7 file to the root of a FAT32 formatted SD card (standard card you have is probably fine.)
3. Turn off your Q7. Insert the SD card.
4. Hold down the Function key (the one with the menu, on the front -- next to the + and - keys) and connect the charger.
5. Sit back and let the firmware load. The machine will boot itself into the new version.

At least, that's how it worked when I installed Mer -- can't imagine it's different with the new one. I'm downloading it now.

Somebody confirm?

Yep just put it directly onto a sd card then pop it into the Q7. With it turned off hold down the menu button (third button down) and plug in the charger till you get an amber light on the lamp.

It automatically loads it, you will see chinese language followed by...... and then a percentage counter of it flashing.

I've done it a few times now trying to fix my wicd....../sigh, I've really stuffed it. I've sent an email off from where I got it in the hopes they can suggest something.

Excuse me but is this new firmware also in English language? I still haven't got my smartq (should be here in a few days) but I was wondering if this upgrade is something I should do right from the start. Of course, if it's only in Chinese, it's a no go, and I'll better stay with the one Eletroworld put in the machine

thanks in advance

Anyone have an idea where to adjust the power save mode?

I want to adjust the sleep mode when on batteries to stay on a little longer.
I want to adjust the sleep mode when I have power plugged in, to stay on unless I put the device to sleep. so that I can copy files to it via USB and not have the device time out.

Silly question.
If I upgrade the firmware by puting it on the card and having the firmware load from the card.

If we remove the card does it revert to the old firmware, or does it upgrade the firmware on the machine. It would make sense that it will flash the firmware and update the internal firmware, or does it just run from the card and always run from the card?

I can't get mine to upgrade. Can someone post the process in steps? Does the machine need to be off? Any help appreciated!

1. Unrar the file directly onto a sd card, (should be called "SmartQ7") I didn't bother formatting it but it was formatted a day or two ago.
2. I have mine off when I flash the firmware. So with SmartQ powered down, insert sd card, hold menu button down (third button down) and insert charger. When the amber light comes on release menu button.
3. It automatically reads the image from the sd card and start flashing.

@wwang: It flashes the firmware. You can do whatever you like with the card after that.

@ColdSun:
  1. Get the Q7 v3.0 rar file here.
  2. Extract the SmartQ7 file. (should be already named SmartQ7)
  3. Move it to an SD card (FAT32 formatted card - most cards are already what you need.)
  4. Insert it into your powered off Q7
  5. Hold down the FUNCTION key (it's on the front, next to the + and - keys -- on the bottom, when you hold it in proper landscape)
  6. Connect the charger. You will see an orange LED light up. Release the FUNCTION key.
  7. Sit back and relax, let the firmware update (Chinese characters, ending in ... indicate it is flashing. If you see characters ending in a ! instead, you have some sort of problem.)

It will reboot itself into the new OS. You will lose any modifications you've made to your current setup.

Any other changes to the 3.0 firmware any one found with while?

Specifically looking for video playback optimization?
enhancements to fbreader?
wifi discovery improvements?
