Funny you mention film. I have a short story set in the Firefly/Serenity universe that I'm considering posting up on Smashwords.

Can you post fanfic on there? I thought there were specific repositories for that?

Yes, you'd best double-check the Smashwords fine print on that one...

Third Book in my vampire series

I'm really excited starting out the New Year. My first trade book, Celic has been published since 2008 followed by my second ebook Vadas. Times are hard and I've been discouraged vowing not to release my third book in the series until I bring my second out in trade back too.

Recently I saw on the web that ebook reading equipment os on great demand. I'm waiting to see the results from my publisher Wild Child.

As for what I'm writing, I'm proud to say my third book is shaping up wonderfully and will carry readers into the life of my vampire Celic with zest. While the first was written to familiarize the reader with his predicament then the second to give you his vampire side, the third will bring both characteristics together.

Meet Celic the cursed, travel with Vadas the vampire, and look forward to Celic Vadas the achiever.

hehe. I'm actually now at a holding point. I've been writing so much lately (put out 3 whole books in about 2 months of almost continuous writing) that I'm going to be taking a step back for a while to let the old processor cool down and catch up on other things before moving on to the next series of writing. Plus, I've been stressing about the next two books enough that the ideas have gone blank on it. I still need a good bad guy for those two books too, as I think that'll help my mind work a lot better. Without the bad guy, who does your good guys fight and what motivation does the story have?

A piece of my new novel, book three of Celic, Vadas and ?

Rough Draft Bob was jubilant. He’d got the vampire’s girl. They’d been talking in the club and, when he left, Bob waited with the hope of grabbing onto her as she exited. The plan went perfect.
“You won’t become Claudette,” he mumbled in the frightened woman’s ear. “When I’m finished with you, I won’t have to hunt for him anymore because he’ll rip this town apart looking for me. So much pleasure you’re going to give me. Now and after you’re dead.”
Whack! Something stung Bob right behind his ear. He slapped where he felt the string but all he could feel was a small piece of something sticking out of his skin.
What was wrong with him? He stumbled, almost dropped his prey. His legs felt wobbly, uncontrollable. Sleep! He needed to just lie down for a moment and rest.
Bob slammed into a set of trash cans dragging Emily on top of him. He tried to hold onto her but his arms didn’t respond either. He felt her weight slide off him right before he closed his eyes. Rest, he just needed a little rest then he’d make her forget the vampire.
*****
Bosera heard the young lady banging onto cans while trying to get back into the light of the streetlamps for help. She rushed to Bob’s side and, with more strength then she thought she possessed, she pulled him away from the area.
Scared beyond belief she let out her breath when she heard him snore. The dart she’d used was poisoned but she’d hoped it wouldn’t kill a creature of his magnitude.
“I can’t let you do it anyone,” she said with tears steaming down her frozen cheeks. “Oh Bob, please become the old you. Stop drinking that stuff and maybe it will leave you system.”
Bosera knew he didn’t hear her plea. Stumbling down a set of stairs behind an old building, she found a locked door and kicked it open. Inside she found a pile of old blankets and put them on top of him. She dared not start a fire. They’d be searching. She longed to stay and keep him warm but didn’t know how long he’d be out. He was too dangerous to trust. After all, she was a woman.
Going back out the door, she pulled it closed behind her. At the top of the stairs, she placed herself in the hopes of stopping anyone from going below to search. When she’d hear him stir, she’d hide again. Swiping the tears from her face, she braced her back against the stone wall.

*****
Emily’s coat fell from her to be left behind in the alley. She lurched into the lighted street, one shoe missing, the sexy red dress covered with trash and her bare skin streaked with scratches.
“Help,” she groaned.
She saw the bouncer standing by the door. The next thing she realized was his strong body holding her up while his big arms wrapped a coat around her.
“Get the police,” she heard him order. “Let’s get her inside.”
Someone opened the door. She felt herself being lifted from the sidewalk and carried to the warmth inside.
“Someone bring her a drink.” Something touched her lips and she sipped it.
“Cop’s here,” a male voice announced.
“What’s the problem,” she knew the voice. Her trembling renewed.
“Emily,” she heard her dad cry before she saw his form kneeling before her.
“What happened baby?” His big hand ran across her hair.
She tried to respond but teeth chattering, all she managed to say was ‘sorry’.
“She got in an argument,” a heavyset woman said. “She met a guy here then they got in a fight. He left right before she did.”
Emily panicked. It wasn’t him, she tried to say. The words wouldn’t form.
“Handsome guy. Dark eyes, long black hair.”
“Him,” she’d never heard her dad’s voice ever sounding so unforgiving. She fainted.

Nothing. And it's glorious.

Now that Beyond the Black is complete and out in the aether, I can focus on the next big thing, which may end up being any one of these three:

Blue Knight
-Urban fantasy

The Shattering Storm (Beyond the Black 2)
-Steampunk PA

Shadow Hunter
-Dark fantasy/mystery

Blue Knight would involve a new character and a new concept I haven't really experimented with (The Phoenix Rising does not count)

Shadow Hunter would bring back a character that I haven't involved myself with in at least 10 years. I'm sure he's...matured...since then =)

I've tried several times to bring him back with limited success. I may have an answer though.

Underwood - horror novel (sort of a rewrite of something I've already done). Set in New Orleans after the floods with a detective looking for his dead wife and finding something else altogether.

Plus I'm now using the 15min burst writing method and I've doubled my output. Man, whoever discovered the 15min burst writing method needs to be patted on the back...now if only I could remember where I picked up the tip

I think I've decided.

Michael Wilfrey will come back. I think I've got the basis of the plot...or at least a reason for him to come out of retirement.

So...Shadow Hunter will be the next thing to work on. I'm thinking it may end up being 65k - 75k in length. That should be ample time to stop a drug ring from killing people

Ghost writing the novelization of an audio-play mostly. It's a contract job that kicked Doc Vandal to the curb during NaNo (money comes first). In the mean time I'm trying to keep my hand in on my own fiction with some shorts.

I've got 5 out doing the rounds at the moment, and I'm working on another.

Then once I get the chance, back to Doc.

I signed an NDA so I can't say much more about it than I'm writing a novelization based on an audioplay. It's the second in a series and I did the first one too.

I'm about halfway through (that may be wishful thinking) the first draft of a novel set in New Zealand between 1912 and c. 1924. It's going fairly well, though rather slowly. Writing about the war years has meant a whole new area of research for me.
