I think they go hand-in-hand. More vivid colors are needed for color eink, but the current eink color implementation makes the color dpi 1/3 that of the monochrome DPI? So higher DPI is a must also?

There is also the cost. Just look at the horror expressed at the price of the Elipsa. What would it be with a higher resolution or Mobius screen?

My impression, so far, of the device can be summed-up by saying: master of none.

Well, despite some reservations about the features, price and the fact that I'm forced to buy the pre-order package, I just couldn't resist. I've wanted a 10" Kobo device for years, and I've said so here multiple times. I wish it had physical buttons and were waterproof, but I'm willing to be Kobo's beta tester.
Simply put, I still use my Forma almost every single day since launch, and I still love it. It's such a useful device, and my biggest pain point is doing all kinds of acrobatics to get an ideal viewport due to the screen being not quite as large as I'd like. Even if Kobo's firmware turns out to be a buggy mess, KOReader should have me covered for PDFs and manga. The note taking is just an extra that I may or may not find a use for. |

We're 99% certain that this won't be running on an NXP SoC, so I wouldn't hold my breath for KOReader support any time soon.
We basically have no idea how this thing works, and won't really have one until we see both a full FW update and the kernel source drop. |

Well that's a bummer. But I have faith, and if worst come to worst I'll deal with Kobo's crappy cbz/pdf support. |

Si jamais vous avez besoin d'aide; I did preorder it so I could probably beta test some stuff if you like.

I hope it doesn't have the 'Worrisome Wedge of Woe', also known as the 'Unfortunate Band of Unlight'; although, my records indicate that it is also sometimes referred to as the 'Liminal Laughing Lightsaber'.
![]() ![]() Please, early adopters, report back with images! Also, there are reports (you know who you are!) that it will not fit in any pockets, except those worn by Captain Kangaroo. Last edited by Dr. Drib; 05-24-2021 at 04:43 PM. |

I used it a couple of times but when I started stuffing the pockets full, it was too heavy and too clunky despite it's advertised weight management. |

My suspicion is that the choice of ComfortLight (one color) as opposed to ComfortLight Pro (adjustable bluish or orange tint) -- requiring more LEDs, and so more possible interference patterns -- was to avoid such problems. I'm sure it's tricky engineering to get an even sidelight across such a big screen. |

Yeah, I wonder also how it will look with the confort light.
Dr Drib, I'll take a picture with a pocket enough big to fit that big one :P More seriously, I guess since I'm in Canadaland, I might get it early (it was the case with KA1) so obivously, if it's the case, I'll take a few pictures. |

I've been looking at my library in Calibre: there are some 100 books I gave up on, either because they are PDFs unreadable comfortably even on the Forma, or they have many tables / graphs / maps.
And there are a few poetry collections with the translation on the facing page. I remember, but can't find it again, that it is possible to have two pages per page, which is a long given up on dream of mine. Considering this, I plan to buy the Elipsa. |
